I have a lot of thoughts on this game... the Personal Foul call that shouldn't have been... the fact that Hayden Spire is constantly berated on here but yet CCH's DC gets a pass for running the exact same front and two coverages for the past 11 years no matter the personnel or situation.  Anyway, that's really not the point.  No matter who you rooted for... how great was this game?  This is why these kids go to these schools... to play in these types of games.  The atmosphere, the stakes, the right calls, the wrong calls, the plays made, the plays not made it all mattered and it all created a classic.  Who wouldn't want to play 10 of these types of games every season?  The sad fact is in Kentucky they are few and far between, but these programs have sought these types of games this year and they are better for it.  Keep your 50 point running clocks.  I will take Friday night every time... win, lose or draw.

That was an outstanding high school football game. Kudos to both teams for being well prepared and playing with 100% effort on each snap. Congrats to the Birds on pulling out the win. That was a lot m

Seems like a shot at CovCaths coaching staff.

Like I said... good calls, bad calls it all makes for a classic... but I know this... if there are 7 seconds left on the clock and they line up in that formation you better be able to go 2 or 4 so that someone is in their best players face off the line with safety help over the top.  It's all Monday morning QB at this point.

How do you not cover Lorenzen on a seam route in that situation?  CovCath lost all leverage in 4A by allowing a team to go length of field with 41 seconds.
Personal foul penalty and not covering the player who everyone knew they were going to.  Implosion!

He was covered! It's just that the person guarding Lorenzen did not do a good job walling and re-routing.

1. At the end of the day the throws have to be within a catchable radius. A WR can have separation and the ball be under or over thrown.

2. Playing zone on that last TD play was inexcusable. Tayden got a clean release from the line of scrimmage. No bump, no push, nothing. So being in zone didn’t get the safety enough time to roll into the coverage.  Good contract was made with the hit. Tayden made a great catch! The kid had already scored 3 TDs so everyone in the stadium knew where the ball was going except for the CovCath defensive coordinator.

I don't mind the play call. They just have to execute. They were no jam/re route from the person that was aligned head up of Tayden.

That announcer was very annoying so I muted him and turned on the CCH boys calling the game on Mixlr on the Colonel Athletic Network.

I started watching another game because of it.

Paging @Brennan_Bucher!  I know it is not your responsibility Brennan, but you would be doing "the next guy" a huge favor.  Anyone can key up the sound and blurt that stuff out.  The audio on the Highlands broadcasts is just glorified public address and not meaningful broadcasting experience.

I still think, the main problem is the fact that year after year it's always been PA on the broadcast. The broadcast should have play by play and color, something that's never happened. That would make it a lot better, and I think they already do so many good things...whether it is the ref mic, the cameras, audio, or whatever high-tech advancements they make - the announcers just have always been a struggle even when I was there IMO and it's just about the format.

But, no matter what, they've always gotten a broadcast out for each and every home game since I can remember. To me that's such a win.

So was Lorenzen covered or not. The pass was on the money, and he got hit hard right at the goal line. He was allowed to run free to that spot on the field.

In the newspaper Sat. he was quoted telling QB1 when he cleared the LB to let it go…he would make the play.  Impressive.

Where does Lorenzen get the go nads to think that he should know what a QB is going to see?

Again, to me it was very pop-pass'esique. Works every time. Some times people don't have to over think stuff. Simple'matic can go a long way sometimes.

Haven’t heard much said about the CovCath defender that tried to dislodge the winning throw to Lorenzon.  I believe it was Cash Harney, Mr. Everywhere for CovCath.  The young man impresses me every time I watch the Colonels.

Oh yeah! His offers will start picking up once the season is over. But the last play of the game Cov Cath ran Cover 3 and Highlands just had Tayden run up the seam, which is the weakness of Cover 3. It was not like Cov Cath lost because of a blown coverage. When it mattered Highlands coaches put the right players in position to make play when they needed to.

He was open in the same area on the previous play.

Again I don’t know many, if any players in NKY that would’ve been strong enough to hold onto the  ball on such a hard hit other than Lorenzen. Absolutely smoked, and held on, great hit, great catch. Instant classic.

Not sure, but I think it might have to do with his 3 previous touchdowns from that night.
