I am 99% sure grounding in high school is just like college and pro. If the QB is out of the pocket, they can throw the ball away and no need for the pass to be any where near a receiver. It just has to be beyond the line of scrimmage. QB can throw it 15 yards out of bounds and it isn't grounding.

This is correct. You can hit grandma in the stands as long as you are out of the tackle box, and it goes beyond the line of scrimmage.

  • Very good game but the CCH defense was very perplexing to me the last :50 seconds. Why they were rushing 4 down linemen and corners not playing outside leverage was a head scratcher. The pass play tha

That was an outstanding high school football game. Kudos to both teams for being well prepared and playing with 100% effort on each snap. Congrats to the Birds on pulling out the win. That was a lot m

Stats came out and Cov Cath went 9.05 yards per play compared to 5.89, with even turnover differential and no special teams meltdowns and got beat. Hard to stomach that as a staff. Why situational football matters!

What I saw was high level, low mistake football on both sides. Pretty even matchup. Highlands just had Lorenzen magic in the last second is the difference.

That 9.05 yard average really came from 3-4 monster plays . Harney had 22 yards on 15 carries , I think that was the biggest difference maker.

Sorry 14 carries for 11 yards

I’d say so far Lorenzen hasn’t gotten enough credit for being strong enough to hold onto the ball on the game winning reception. He was obviously shook up on a great clean very hard hit and still hung on. I hope he’s ok. Great game all around.

Very hard collision my both parties involved.

I agree the new rule leaves alot to the officials discretion. I’d say at the high school level they’ll side with the QB unless it’s blatantly obvious.

I see less discretion in the new rule. Did the ball get past the line of scrimmage? That's all the discretion there is.

I know it didn’t get past the LOS on one of them, but not sure about the other that was in question.

My brother called me. He has pretty much 0 interest in high school football at this point in his life. I hadn't heard from him in about two weeks. First thing he did was ask me about that play. Not a thing said about the touchdown at first. All he wanted to talk about was the force that was exerted at that goal line. It hit a soft spot in my brother's heart that opened up a wound that I don't think he knew existed. High school football at it's finest!

Haven’t heard much said about the CovCath defender that tried to dislodge the winning throw to Lorenzon.  I believe it was Cash Harney, Mr. Everywhere for CovCath.  The young man impresses me every time I watch the Colonels.

No doubt. Cash gets just as much respect here in all my praise. It takes 2 to tango to make a great play like that be as cinematic as it was. Cash was bringing a load like he always does.

My brother didn't even know who Cash or Tayden was. All he knew was that he witnessed something spectacular. He saw Highlands and Cov Cath and he knew the magnitude of that moment. Now he is a little more briefed up on the scope of high school football. And amazed that is Jared Lorenzen's kid.

Didn’t mean to infer you were neglecting Cash at all.  Agree 100% that it was a great offensive effort with a big time defensive play trying to dislodge the completion.  Classic.
