Why is Coach Sullivan being forced out of Cooper?

Also, as Sullivan's situation has proven, a successful season has very little to do with retaining a coaching position at Cooper

Winner winner! ChickenWyngz dinner!

I just don't understand people anymore.  I don't see how anyone wants to continue to be a coach or be a high school referee.

You should've had your mom go complain to the Coach. LOL

  • If your boss wants you out, and you have lots of options in life, do you really want to fight it?  More of a general question than anything.

The most important thing a HS coach can do in today's society/culture is to work somewhere where he's buddies with the Principal/Super.   They can axe you at anytime.  Sad.

Corrective Action Plan is used for teachers.  I've never heard it used for coaches.  We have to remember this is high school athletics, and coaching is considered "extra duty" services.  This could be a wrap around way for the admin. to  try to get rid of a "tenured teacher".

From what I'm seeing online, the March Boone County School Board meeting will need to be held at Truist Arena! ?

Essentially, CAPs are a paper trail to fire teachers.  It is extremely hard to fire a tenured teacher.  There would have to be a lengthy trail of ineffective teaching data, or a legal issue.

I'm going to say this won't stain Sully at all.

I would say that it adds to his character. He didn't run from it, didn't resign, didn't act like he had anything to hide. Stood for what he believes in and looks like he would like to defend his name.

Have seen so many successful HS coaches leave the profession for many reasons, but two come to mine:

1).  They do not have administrators that have their six.
2).  They professionally do not want to move onto the admin side where the real money is because the HS principal finds himself with lots of headaches, people that think he answers to them (parents, SBC members, board members, etc.) and then the real chain-of-command.  All the while responsible for teacher performance, student performance, and leading a cohesive team.  Tough gig.

It certainly is obvious there is a great divide between these two professionals.  Oil and water don’t mix.  Time for one or the other to move on.  Principal might win this one (right or wrong?); but, the principal’s decisions in the past, present and future will always be questioned.

I can't speak for education, but CAP's, PIPs, Pivot Plans or whatever you want to call them, in the business world, are extremely hard to survive. And if you do, you never escape the fact that you had one attached to your name and are one misstep, mistake, or bad day from being forced to live through another one. The thing is, no matter how good you are, if someone doesn't like you or want you around, it's not that hard to come up with a reason to put someone on a "plan." Really, the only to survive one of these plans is for the person who put you on the plan to go away.

This seems to be the case in this situation from all we are gathering and hearing. It seems, however unfortunate, that Sully ended up on the principal's radar and not in a good way.

I have heard from people in that building that the principal has his "posse" or group of people in his corner and if you aren't a part of that it is going to be a long year for you at Cooper.

The more I read, see, and hear it sounds like there could be some issues at the top, and maybe that is where people should be looking instead of the basketball coach.

If Sully does fight it and “wins”. I personally wouldn’t want to be in the same building / working for a guy that tried to run me out. Sadly in my opinion , 1 of them has to go and hope it’s not the Coach.

It's been my understanding that coaches work on a year-by-year basis and are basically at-will employees who can be fired for any reason as long as it isn't discriminatory.  Not sure what there is to "fight" other than getting your story out there to salvage your good name.

This is facts.

Best post of the thread !!!

Unfortunate this is taking place- Principal, AD, and coach have all been there since the school's inception in 2008.   Principal hired them both I'm assuming.
