14th Region Off-Season Discussion (2024-2025)

Now that the season has came to an end.

What can we expect next season?

 

Can Perry County Central repeat? They return most of they're team from this season including two out of three leading scorers in Carter Castle and Trayten Woods. They will be a senior loaded team with 6 seniors, if not more.

Breathitt County came up short trying to repeat this past season. Breathitt only loses three but two of those are they're leading scorers. Isaac Bellamy and Jaxon Hamilton. They do return Austin Sperry who is phenomenal.

Hazard who had a phenomenal season but came up just short to Breathitt County in the regional tournament. Hazard returns they're entire team (per KHSAA).

Knott County Central had a good season but like Hazard, they also came up just short in the regional tournament falling, 59-54 to eventual region champ, Perry County Central. They lose both leading scorers, Jayden Huff and Hunter Haddix. Those are the only two they lose but they are big departures.

Estill County: The Engineers who had another 20 win season, seen they're season come to an end by Breathitt county 65-62 (Estill had beaten Breathitt two weeks earlier in the final regular season game). Estill loses 4 of they're 5 starters. The only one they return is guard Casey Chaney. Estill will be in complete rebuild mode and they're was talk that Coach Brian Hall maybe hanging it up but nothing official has came out yet.

Powell County, the Pirates won back to back 56th district titles but couldn't get past the first round of the regional tournament. Pirates lose all of they're scoring from this season and they are also looking for a new head coach as Allen Martin isn't being retained.

Lee County: The Bobcats who struggled last season, will take another step back as they not only lose most of they're scoring, they are also looking for a new head basketball coach. Maybe, just Maybe they can sweet talk Danny Wright back into coaching. 

Letcher County Central: What can they Cougars do to be region contention? They struggled a lot this season.

 

Off-Season is just begun, will be interesting to see how everything plays out. Coaching Changes, players transferring.

Looks like Knott county Central is regional host next season.

Powell County letting go on an alum after back to back district titles. May be hard to find someone wanting to walk into that.

That's what I'm thinking. That place is a headcase, especially if certain people still have a say....

Hazard is an easy pick as the region favorite next year. They return everyone from a 27-6 team. They probably had the best team from top to bottom this year but Breathitt was able to squeeze the Bulldogs for 2 of their 6 losses. The two teams were 2-2 in the games they played with Hazard’s 2 losses to the Bobcats both overtime games. They matched up pretty good with Hazard and basketball can be a game of matchups. Hazard beat eventual region winner Perry Central all three games they played. The Commodores lose Kizer Sloan but have all other players back. Breathitt graduates Isaac Bellamy and Jaxon Hamilton but return Sperry, Terry, and Gross. I had heard some rumblings that Sperry might transfer to a prep school but that as of late that may not occur.
