CFP Final Rankings

It is actually the #12 team because the first 11 are in the #12 goes to the highest non power 5 team like this year's Oklahoma was #12 but they would've been the first team out and #23 Liberty would be the 12th team in.

It actually wouldn't be Liberty, as the highest ranked non P5 conference champ they get an auto bid. My argument would be why would Penn St be in over Oklahoma?

  • Save the “Florida State won but it wasn’t pretty” crap. We watch low scoring SEC games all the time and they are chalked but to be great games.

  • Committee is a clown show. But it’s to be expected.

I agree and I would like to see Oregon vs. Ohio State if Bo Nix plays for Oregon.

I think here is a point that everyone is missing as well. Maybe you do, maybe you don't recall, but this year was supposed to be the year of the 12 team playoff. Maybe you do, maybe you don't recall, which conference was the loudest about pushing it back to next year?

Here are two things, I honestly think would have helped the committee, if they had done this. First, last week when FSU struggled to beat Florida, they should have dropped them to 5 then. Then this week they could have dropped them to 6 and dropped Georgia to 5. But they didn't. I think another thing I would recommend if I was on the committee, is that all of our votes are transparent. That is, we know how everyone on that committee voted, it would give us all an idea of just how hard a decision it was for them.

I'm not an SEC guy, I'm actually a Big XII guy, but come on every year, year in and year out, the SEC is the best conference in College Football. This year the PAC 12 stepped up, the Big 10 is always good, just a step behind the SEC and then you have the Big XII and ACC barely above the Power 5 Conferences.

I've read the talk of Bama barely beating Auburn, but may I remind you that Georgia, had to have a late 4th quarter TD to beat this as well back in week 5.

I feel bad for FSU, their coach, team, fans, etc. But at the end of the day, I hate that their QB went down, but does Jordan actually think they would have gone 13-0 if he went down, let's say in game 5? I don't think so, one thing is for sure they were not near as good of a team offensively without him as they were with him.

The end of the day, I think the committee got it right, but man they should have brought a lot of criticism to themselves, simply by not being as transparent as I think they should or could have been.

Using the KHSAA comparison...

Trinity is usually the cream of the crop in 6A and statewide. If we applied the same logic to high school that we do for college, that would mean we always think 6A is the best class because Trinity and Male dominate.

How many years do we really think that after Trinity and Male, the next several "best" teams are all in 6A? Not often.

Having the best team, or even the best two teams doesn't make a league the best.

I agree, but that is the point I'm making.  The best team in 6A Louisville is more often than not the best 6A in the entire state.  Same is true with the SEC.  The best in the SEC is more often than not proven to be the best in the country.

It's not about 6A being the best overall class, nor the SEC being the best overall league.  It's about 6A Louisville being the best team in the state, just like the best in the SEC is usually the best in the country.

I'll step back in to address the bolded.

On the first - I agree, if they were going to do this, they should have dropped FSU to 5th to begin with.  It's why I don't trust much of what they've said.  I think they're mixing their criteria/making it up as they go/building the explanation out of having done what they were going to do anyway. I think Georgia should be above FSU right now if we're going by the criteria of "best" that they ended up using.  In fact, I think they should be behind Ohio State as well, and maybe Oregon.  Don't do a half measure - if you're gonna do it, do the dang thing.

On the second, I don't know, everyone seems to think that the ACC is so crappy and that's why FSU was able to win it anyway without Travis.  I don't know why they wouldn't have been able to win those games either if that's the mindset.  Their toughest two games after beating Clemson were against Duke and Miami, both at home.  If Rodemaker had taken over after Game 5 (Virginia Tech), he'd have had the Syracuse game to get his feet before playing Duke.  Miami would have been another three weeks after that, by which point Rodemaker would have been in his fifth game.  Would they have won both? I don't know.  But I definitely wouldn't say with certainty they'd have lost, because I don't know that either of those opponents were as tough as Florida on the road or Louisville in a neutral site.  And I guarantee you that like Jordan feels, they'd have probably made that swap at this point for a chance to have proven their worth to make the playoff.  Rodemaker would have had a lot more experience, and depending on the recovery time, who knows, maybe Travis would have been available for the playoffs (doubtful but it would have been nearly three months).  They'd have taken that chance.  It beats the heck out of doing all that they could do, winning, and not even getting the chance.

Exactly this. If it were truly about Travis being out, they should have dropped FSU in the next poll following the injury. What I think happened is they expected FSU to lose to Florida without Travis, and that didn't happen.

So you don’t think Georgia is one of the top 4 teams in the nation? I definitely do and think they got it wrong!!

If you put Georgia in who do you leave out?

Washington or Texas either one or even Bama.

DragonFire, I have a lot of respect for you, but I will address the bold. Of the Power 5 Conferences top to bottom, where would you place the ACC?

2nd I hate that all of this for FSU is being laid at the feet of a QB who got hurt. No doubt that Travis is a great QB, but to say it's all because of him, I can't even begin to understand the level of guilt that kid is under today.

That's not an answer, you have to leave 1 out, who? You can't spin a roulette wheel here, because that's what the committee has been accused of doing.

I've given it no thought, but let's just say 5th of the 5 so we can just move past it.  It's not a question of whether they're a better conference than others, it's that people seemed to think they were so bad that it didn't mean anything that they were able to beat the second best team in the conference without their starting QB (or second string, for that matter).  Given that, I don't know why we'd just assume that they would not have finished 13-0 if Rodemaker started for longer.  I want to be clear that's in the framework of the scenario you laid out, that this happened in Week 5.  The only way they were beating LSU with Rodemaker is if they had a whole offseason to prep him.  And I doubt they'd have beaten BC or Clemson without the same, given how we saw those play out.  But the rest of the schedule, I think they could have won those on short notice, and the longer Rodemaker had on the field, the more confident I would have become in those results.

If I had to isolate one, would probably be Bama.

I actually think Washington could win. Many have been against them for whatever reasons they have, but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if they are the champions. Guess we will see.

Can't leave Bama out after they beat Georgia.

Back to my original question, it was the ACC that was joined by the PAC 12 and the Big 10 that eliminated the 12 team playoff this  year.
