I’m guessing a 10-1 Ashland team that has put points up in every game will be fired up for this one. The Tomcats are a fine program and I hope the Colonels will match the intensity. Definitely a step up in competition compared to the back half of the schedule.

  • The poll is 30-0 CCH right now so I am guessing it hasn't been too tough for anyone...

Can we stop this nonsense?  Ohio football... yay... Ohio football.  The fact is their are a LOT of NKY kids who can individually compete in Ohio.  Cam Thomas and Maddox Arnold come immediately to mind

Let’s refrain from throwing the Cincinnati area in there. There are several receivers over there that would be fits for every starting cornerback in NKY. Yet alone a 5’10 sophomore starting for his first time. We get the point no need to exaggerate! Competitive against NKY isn’t any where near being competitive against Cincy. CCH passing game hasn’t been tested on that level, let’s be real.

I actually agree. I meant that he could at least hang with them from a speed/agility/acceleration aspect and wouldn't be getting blown by. Obviously, he would not be able to cover Chris Henry Jr, but do think he's athletic enough that he wouldn't be getting toasted by most receivers.

I think he locks down Marvin Harrison, JR with out a problem IMO.

Agreed. The good news for us is Braylon Miller has played a ton of football and is imo the best player we’ve had at corner in a while.

Dylan Gaiser definitely needs more seasoning, but is athletic enough to compete with just about every receiver in the state and Cincinnati area.

I think both of those kids are pretty tough and are more than willing to stick their nose in and tackle.

It’s been fun watching Dylan Gaiser develop into a star this year. Nearly every game he has an eye-popping play that he can add to his highlight reel. Glad we’ll have him for a couple more years.

I feel like this game will be tougher than the 3rd round matchup. It will be a hard-fought win for the Colonels (hope I’m wrong and they’ll just coast). But the most important point is just win, baby!

Running clock in the 3rd quarter. Covcath advances!

Too tempting to resist?

1988* Cov Cath (Ray) beat Ashland (Marsh) 6-0 (OT)

Easily a top five game in the history of Putnam Stadium. Some of the old timers might even say it's #1.

Late November, state semifinal, cold, suffering from a turkey hangover, defensive war of attrition, overtime... basically right up my alley.

I was at that game.  Ashland was given 3-4 opportunities to kick a winning field goal at the end of regulation to win that game.  Coach Ray was losing his mind!

... I like CovCath to run away with this game in the second half and I am thinking a three or four TD win for the Colonels.

Professor Massey agrees on the potential margin:

Ashland with the upset! Glad you guys are overlooking them.

Let's not forget Dixie gave CovCath a pretty good games.

Flood and Kruer are 2 of the best linebackers in KY. Having Josh back is big for the Colonels. Defense wins championships. Go Colonels!

Colonels by 21.

Kruer has a broken thumb. Tried to play through it on Friday and I think he ended up w/ 1 tackle and 1 assist. Not good for your team's leading tackler.

No running clock on Friday. Blazer is too good a passing team for us to be able to get a running clock on them.

QBH comments in an awful lot of Highlands threads and not in many CCH threads. I'm not sure what group you mean when you say you guys, but I don't think he's among the CCH supporters.

That game deserves its own thread. Very physical matchup where both teams left it all on the field. I believe Ashland had three losses coming into that game, but they were a handful and much better than most CovCath fans were expecting.
