Can we just get to August already??

The Cov Cath defense has to finish strong and get Boyle off the field, particularly on third-and-long. There was a handful of times Tilghman converted them that sustained drives after getting sparse yardage the previous two downs. I believe they’ll come out fired up against this high-octane Boyle offense.

If the defense plays like they did against Tilghman, we have a great shot to win this game. While PT had a couple of really solid weapons on offense (probably an understatement, as Martels Carter is one of the best players in KY) Boyle has several. If Boyle starts out hot in the first half, I expect adjustments from EE & company like they’ve made all year. Pitzer needs to take us to the promised land. His teammates feeds off his toughness and confidence. The way this team gets fired up after he has a huge play is palpable. We need that energy during this game. We need to give him time in the pocket this week. We’re going to have to throw to win this game. The thing we can’t do is beat ourselves. We need to capitalize on turnovers and field position. I trust that toughness & discipline, which are the hallmarks of an EE coached team, will help them come through in the end. They’ve answered the bell every time this year in the face of adversity. Cov Cath has also rarely lost in the state finals (8-1). Only loss was to South Warren in 2018.

What an atmosphere Dennis Griffin was tonight! I have no voice after this game. I really thought that our inability to capitalize on PT mistakes in the first half would come back to bite us. And then, thankfully, they made one more which swung the momentum in our favor and they could never grab it back. Extremely proud of this defense only letting PT score 14. I can see why Carter is a 4-star & has so many offers; not many receivers can make Cov Cath look like that. Glad we won’t have to see him next week. Evan “Tebow” Pitzer is an absolute warrior. He earned every yard tonight. So did Leen. Really impressed by how Miller played as well. This squad portrayed the resiliency & discipline they have all year. A total team effort, and I am so proud of them. Off to state. GO COLONELS!!!!!

2017, 2018 & 2019 CCH would’ve certainly had a shot at winning 6A. 2018 fell short against South Warren but they were right there. South Warren was the #1 team in the state in 2018 and Cov Cath was ranked #1 the next year when they won 5A. Beat a championship LaSalle team that year as well.

These resilient Colonels have been challenged all year and have responded to every test. Pitzer needs to continue to be surgical. Willie has to continue his dominant play that he has exhibited all year. Our receiving corp needs to play the way they have all season; explosive while creating in space. Leen needs to run hard as usual and our line needs to pave the way for him and protect Pitzer. Simply put: if we play our game, we will pull this out and head to state. Colonels by a TD. There is an embarrassment of riches at the receiver position on this team. It’s been really fun to watch Willie, Miller, Link, Johnson and others develop as a receiving corp. Miller has been so consistent every week and has taken a big step forward. He is going to be huge next week (and hopefully in Lex if we beat PT). Happy to be playing teams like JC again as well. Glad to have that playoff rivalry back. Just a great performance by the Colonels all-around last night.

Ryle had a ridiculously tough schedule this year. They’re heating up at the right time. Both schools in Union playing some solid football this season. Go beat Bryan Station.

NKY football is loaded this year and I’m loving it.

Ashland is a dangerous team. Our skill players put on a show last night. Leen running wild per usual and Willie putting on a clinic. He sets the bar higher each week and looks absolutely unstoppable. Offense is clicking on all cylinders. At this point in the year, just win, baby! Excited to play JC.

Pitzer will continue to be deadly accurate. This team has so many weapons. Colonels by 2+ scores.

Ditto. He is an absolute wizard when the play breaks down and will be a migraine for opposing defenses next year. Dylan “Houdini” Gaiser.

I feel like this game will be tougher than the 3rd round matchup. It will be a hard-fought win for the Colonels (hope I’m wrong and they’ll just coast). But the most important point is just win, baby!

It’s been fun watching Dylan Gaiser develop into a star this year. Nearly every game he has an eye-popping play that he can add to his highlight reel. Glad we’ll have him for a couple more years.
