Not many people lining up to play Mayfield.  But the 9-game schedule and easily the less stringent of the Big 3s schedule is an issue.  But don't think the Cardinals or Cardinal fans care.  And one of those 2 still "may" have to go to Mayfield in November and that is a very difficult task.

LCA will have the return of SR DL Hardge against Boyle.  That will help their defense.

I expect LCA's defense to improve going forward.  Going to be a really great 2A semi-final round!

Not that it's great but the Defense actually gave up 31 pts. 2 TD's came off offensive offensive turnovers and an opening kick off return. You could of drove a semi thru the opening on the kickoff return.

  • To be fair, I am not sure how much a loss to Boyle says about LCA. I don't see a team outside of the best in 6A that I would expect to beat Boyle head to head right now. If LCA beats Boyle,

  • Me too, I think LCA should be number one.

  • It does have value but Beechwood literally beat Mayfield by an extra point so they were basically even. Beechwood lost their best player. Mayfield did not and they gained one of the best players on th

That's good to know and is no longer a concern.

I guess my experience really noticing was in the playoffs. They must dress everyone I am guessing? I just remember way more them 45-50 dressed at the championship game.

Btw 40 is a huge class for a 2a school.

Beechwood brings up freshmen and let's them dress for the playoffs. Good experience for them.

What if 75% or more of last year's roster including starters is the same? Ignore what those players have done for the last year or two?

Just factor the new players that transferred in with that 75% of returning players you are referring to and make a legit judgement and everyone will have something different to say about teams, but I respect your analysis also VOR.

I know who he was talking about. But the kid didn’t play in the playoffs last year and he’s not on the team this year so he doesn’t even belong in this conversation unless he is trying to make the point that beechwood would’ve beat mayfield by more last year if they had him and that very well might be true. With that being said, Berger was a heck of a player and yes he absolutely terrorized Mayfield 2 years ago. All I’m saying is ALOT of people look at potential when ranking teams early in the season. Just look at the New York Jets. They’ve been awful for several years and now everyone is all over them because of who they added. To each their own though. I do enjoy going back and forth on these forums. Makes the week fun leading up to Fridays.

And all I am saying is there have been 3 years in a row where other teams with "more talent" shoulda, woulda, coulda ... I think that is a very interesting dichotomy.

Amen. I don't know how a team that has won a state title 6 of the past 7 years could get so little respect.

Because this isn't the Beechwood team from the past 7 years.

I’m not disrespecting them at all. I’m just looking at LCA’s roster and saying they should win it all and I think they are the best team. I hope Beechwood does beat them if they get the chance to play them.

To me Mayfield playing such a weak schedule makes this calculation hard outside of head to head play.

I agree. It’s very hard to gage when mayfield doesn’t play similar caliber teams. I thought LCA played a tougher schedule last year than Mayfield. I just believe that it is very hard to win in the playoffs without some sort of defense. When things slow down offensively against the good teams you have to have a solid defense to rely on. I think once mayfield/beechwood are in the post season, they’ll both will be a lot tougher defensively for a team with LCA’s firep.

Mayfield hasn’t necessarily played a tough schedule in some years but they’re always a tough out come November or December.

With kids transferring from school to school at a great rate, the previous season doesn’t really hold a bunch of merit, analyze the current rosters and then make decisions based on current play.

This! I mean take what LCA had last year. We made the game hard for the QB and we won the game. This year? Completely different team. The additions. It’s ridiculous. Pick your poison now. You can’t solely focus on one now.

Of course they should win! With the roster they have now heck they could easily challenge 1-6. As a mayfield fan I’m salty about it, cause I truly believe this was the year to break our streak. The fact though, that somehow, the best qb in the state and the best rb in the state are on the same team now is scary. And they still have 7-8 other D1 prospects.  I pray we don't see them until State lol..

I would watch out for Owensboro Catholic. They will beat Owensboro.

Someone brought up if LCA loses to Boyle and if Owensboro beats BG. I'm going to put my $$ on Catholic vs. Owensboro. We will know in a couple weeks.

Beechwood lost 8 defensive starters from last year and the 3 that are back are playing different positions. Defense has carried the tigers the last 3 years. Allowing less than 7 points per contest last year. The offense has a lot of weapons and a legit QB so they will have to put up points for the tigers to get back to the title game.

Catholic is fielding probably one of the best teams they’ve ever had. Catholic has play makers all over the field, much respect for the Aces. But they got obliterated by a CAL team last year who returned majority of their production this yr and Owensboro was able to keep it much closer even in a rebuilding year. IF Owensboro is able to pull off a W against BG I wouldn’t say OCatholic beating Owensboro is a forsure thing. I’m sure at that point Owensboro would have to be the favorites.… That it will be a close high scoring game.

However I do believe O’Cath is the 2nd best team in 2A this year behind LCA. The addition of Hensley makes them crazy good.
