Not sure which order they should go in after week 1 but looking at the schedules for the top 3, it seems like LCA will be much more battle tested for the playoffs.

  • To be fair, I am not sure how much a loss to Boyle says about LCA. I don't see a team outside of the best in 6A that I would expect to beat Boyle head to head right now. If LCA beats Boyle,

  • Me too, I think LCA should be number one.

  • It does have value but Beechwood literally beat Mayfield by an extra point so they were basically even. Beechwood lost their best player. Mayfield did not and they gained one of the best players on th

In a couple weeks we should know a lot more.  At this point one has to tip their hat to LCA for the BG win.  Mayfield faces a PT team week 3 that is flying under the radar.  After week 3 I expect to have a much better feel for who should be where and until then I see no reason to care who is ranked where.

I watched all 3 schools play this weekend. Thanks to live streams. I do have to say while all 3 teams looked good, the lack of players on Beechwood's sidelines has to be concerning.

About a 40 man roster. Beechwood has been at that roster size in the past or close to it many times. Average roster size over the years is probably about 45-50.

For what it is worth, Beechwood freshman roster is the biggest ever with 40 or so on that roster. The future looks good.

40 freshmen. That’s insane.

A few years ago Beechwood went to 8th graders also playing freshman so that is 8 and 9 combined. Still a big number.

LCA had a very impressive win. Giving up 50 points doesn’t make them a favorite for me. What happens when you play a mayfield/beechwood in the post season and the offensive production slows down? Now they have to depend on a defense that wasn’t that great last year and it seems like that defense rolled over to this year. Until I see something different..

To me Mayfield playing such a weak schedule makes this calculation hard outside of head to head play.

Not many people lining up to play Mayfield.  But the 9-game schedule and easily the less stringent of the Big 3s schedule is an issue.  But don't think the Cardinals or Cardinal fans care.  And one of those 2 still "may" have to go to Mayfield in November and that is a very difficult task.

LCA will have the return of SR DL Hardge against Boyle.  That will help their defense.

I expect LCA's defense to improve going forward.  Going to be a really great 2A semi-final round!

I understand no one wants to play Mayfield because they don't want to lose.  Add that to a less populated area and here we are.  All I am saying is it makes the calculus more difficult.

I agree. I really wish Mayfield vs Johnson Central would’ve worked out. It sounded like it was going to but ended up falling through. Mayfield plays a very underrated Paducah Tilghman team next Friday and then they travel to Henderson County later in the season but I don’t think Henderson is near as good as they were last year. Other than that Mayfield plays no one until the playoffs.

I agree and I am looking forward to the PT game.

With kids transferring from school to school at a great rate, the previous season doesn’t really hold a bunch of merit, analyze the current rosters and then make decisions based on current play.

That's good to know and is no longer a concern.

I guess my experience really noticing was in the playoffs. They must dress everyone I am guessing? I just remember way more them 45-50 dressed at the championship game.

Btw 40 is a huge class for a 2a school.

What if 75% or more of last year's roster including starters is the same? Ignore what those players have done for the last year or two?
