Hmmm, I don't know about that.

The only possibility is Mayfield.

  • To be fair, I am not sure how much a loss to Boyle says about LCA. I don't see a team outside of the best in 6A that I would expect to beat Boyle head to head right now. If LCA beats Boyle,

  • Me too, I think LCA should be number one.

  • It does have value but Beechwood literally beat Mayfield by an extra point so they were basically even. Beechwood lost their best player. Mayfield did not and they gained one of the best players on th

Mayfield isn't giving up 50 to anybody. Not even close.

3 starters didn't even play for Mayfield.

I didn't say 50. Bowling Green has 2-3 division one kids on that side of the football and are two deep at about every position. That being said, and more to your point, LCA's defense only gave up 31 of that. They gave up two defensive TDs and a special teams TD. It's early in the season, most teams have one side of the ball that is going to be ahead of the other. Happens every year.

LCA scored 28 on Mayfield 2 games ago. Boley was 21-34, 236 yards, 2 TD's and an INT.

And I'm willing to guess that they rushed to little of nothing. Let me tell you, I don't care when the game is played, the Eagles will rush for much more then what they did in that matchup. I don't even know what the number is. But I can assure you it will be better.

And now are guessing. I am using game facts. I want more facts to make me believe LCA can beat Mayfield.

Let's back up and start again:

You asked if it bothered anyone that LCA jumped Mayfield. I provided you the main reasoning being to the addition of Hensley (a significant running threat) that is backed up by game facts against the top team in class 5A. I don't know how much clearer that can be.

One game outweighs years of evidence?

And I would have Bullitt East, Male and St. X all ahead of Trinity in 6A.

Those players and the Head Coach who were there for those years of evidence are no longer there.

Top 3 can go in any order.

Mayfield made mistakes that will be corrected and still best a solid Graves team 42-7.  Impressive win by LCA over the 5A favorite. Beechwood also started with a solid win. That will sort itself out in the playoffs. OCath is a clear 4.

Don’t understand SV @ 5 considering their loss.

Breathitt Co stays in top 10 after being embarrassed by a Belfry team that is “down” due to transfers.

I would have LCA #1 because I think Bowling Green would beat all the other 2A teams plus I saw Hensley against St. X two years ago and he was impressive back then and now he's a senior and showed how good he was in that Bowling Green game. If LCA loses 2A I will eat a big dish of fried crow but I don't think I'll be eating that.

Maybe they would beat Mayfield, BG could have beaten LCA. It was a good game to watch but the defensive coordinators are having fits. And if BG beat Mayfield I would say it wouldn't be by much.

My 2 cents (which means absolutely nothing) is that the preseason top 3 should have been:

LCA

Mayfield

Beechwood

And I think it should still be that way after week 1. But that’s the fun in preseason polls and early season polls. They don’t mean anything but we still act like they do. Everything will sort itself out over the next several weeks and if it doesn’t, well then these teams have to face each other late in the playoffs and we will definitely see who the best team is then.

So you would put the three time defending 2A champion at #3 behind the teams they have beaten in the playoffs the last three years?

Point to ponder:

What are people's thoughts if this Friday LCA gets beat by Boyle County and Bowling Green loses to Owensboro?
