That one today hurts. No doubt about it. I think we need to go 6-2 in the last 8 and no worse than 5-3 to have a shot and I am not sure 5-3 will do it. Hey we have a shot at making the playoffs on Sept. 20 I doubt any of us thought that was a possibility in April.

Agree with all this. And absolutely no one thought the Reds had a chance at the playoffs. More people thought they might be the worst team in baseball than be a playoff contender. The crazy thing, look at the numbers for this team and tell me how they are this close to playoff contention. I don't think they are above average in hardly anything.

  • The unmitigated gall of someone not considering that the Reds would be contending about now.  Terrible foresight.

  • Well, it was fun while it lasted.

MLB is weak from top to bottom with the exception of a hand full of teams, and on some days it's hard to name them.

Marlins lost and Cubs are down 5 in the 9th. Still just 1 GB. Today was an awful loss though. Got to win the final 3 series.

Why? With one of the worst starting pitching staffs in baseball, I don't think there could be any expectations and certainly not "easily". There isn't one steady played on this entire team that the Reds could hang their hat on. The closest to that is Spencer Steer and he is a rookie.

David Bell will get votes for manager of the year the way he piecemealed this hodgepodge of retreads, castoffs and rookies into playoff contention till late September.

LOL, and what do you think these teams they are playing last 20 games are like??  With all that you listed they’re still better than every team they play except the Twins and they’re pretty close with them!  Twins are 9 games over .500, the other 5 teams are an aggregate 58 games under .500 and we currently stand 6-6!!  Of course not all that is Bell’s fault, players have to make plays, but he just doesn’t help them much with some things he does, (came REALLY close to losing his DH the same way AGAIN when Maile got beaned, doesn’t he learn??).  Buddy has some real pull if he gets manager of the year votes, I stand by what I said, should’ve made the playoffs EASILY

Every time I think the Reds have shot themselves in the foot and are out of it, the other teams in the race lose and bring the Reds right back into it.

Big game today and a huge series with the Pirates.  Making the playoffs would be huge for this young team.

This is how bad the Reds starting pitching is. You say the Reds are playing bad teams. The starting pitching on every bad team the Reds have played the last month except Detroit has more quality starts from their starters than the Reds. And the Reds have only one more quality start than Detroit. Only 5 teams in all MLB have worse starting pitchers than the Reds. You give far too much credit to the Reds players. This not a good team. Yet they are in playoff contention.

Another collapse by the pen tonight, really bad loss, Pirates tried to give it to us and we wouldn’t take it

I remember when Casey Stengel was managing the Mets he said “can anybody play this game”??   Right now we’re saying can anybody in this bullpen get anybody out??
