Chad Montgomery named Bellevue Football Coach

Featured Replies

Athletic Director Jim Hicks released a statement this morning stating Chad Montgomery, a 2001 Bellevue graduate, is taking the helm for the black and gold Tigers.

Congrats Coach Montgomery and thanks for taking this job.

Congrats coach Montgomery! Bellevue made a great hire by getting him. He is a great coach, but just an even better person too. He knows the Bellevue tradition, and truly is going to care about those players and put the work and time in that’s needed to make them successful on and off the field. He will get the Bellevue program back on track!

Congrats again to Coach Montgomery!

Congratulations to Coach Montgomery, happy to hear this for him. I think he should have been there well before now.

That 1999 team was awful good and  Chad was a big reason why. Congratulations Coach Montgomery and Go Tigers!

Look forward to watching him revive Bellevue football!

Same. I have a serious question for Northern Kentucky folks: what is the ceiling for small, 1A schools like Bellevue, Dayton, and Ludlow? I don't think it is a state championship, but that isn't realistic for 90% of schools in Kentucky. Is it a final four? District title? One good team every two years? Four? Decade?

I disagree. I do think the ceiling can be a state championship. Especially since they all have won state titles or even multiple titles before. Now it won’t be easy, and going to take some time still to build, plus needs to be an investment from their district to help. So it’s not going to happen tomorrow, but I do think the ceiling can still be a state title.

Take Ludlow for example. A few years ago they built brand new locker rooms for the players. This year getting a brand new and very unique field that will stand out. So facilities wise they are making being at Ludlow more attractive and investing in their programs. Plus now with their new district and not having to be with a Beechwood or NCC like they always use to be. They have a chance to possibly start making deeper runs in the playoffs. Which when you start winning and making bigger runs, to go along with the nice facilities. It’s going to not only make kids want to stay at Ludlow, it’s also going to help attract kids to come to Ludlow. Which that is when you build off that and take even the next step.

I believe I heard on here that Dayton also has in their works to eventually build a brand new stadium too. So they are also now going to have the facilities.

Bellevue now IMO has the right coach. So first step is to start building it back up obviously, which I think he will. Then hopefully the district also decides to help out too, by upgrading facilities and stuff like Ludlow has, and Dayton will be doing. Stuff like that all adds up, then if you can make some runs in the playoffs. You get players out, you get players to stay, and even get players to come.

So the ceiling can still be state champs, with obvious building with the smaller steps first. Winning district, making deeper playoff runs, etc.

I went to school with Chad. Really good guy and perfect man for this job. I'm not sure if "knowing the Bellevue tradition" is something of importance. From what I have gathered, Bellevue High School is a completely different place then it was twenty-five years ago.

Important thing to remember is that, right now, winning isn't important.  It's all about keeping numbers consistent and getting better each day.  Certainly winning will help with the numbers issue, but coach will have to find a good core that won't mentally and emotionally check out when the going get tough.   Let's hope he does and that they avoid the injury big in those early stages.  NKY is better when Bellevue football is fun.

Yes. This season should have 2 goals. 1. Have a team and 2. finish the season.
