Open Job: Beechwood

One criteria that I expect to be at the top of the list. The coach must be in the building. That might help screen potential names.

I agree Moser is a great guy. I have been friends with him for almost 40 years. He would be a great hits.

Wondering if anyone on staff a no brainer “handoff” choice as this is sort of late in the game to lose your head coach, and I’m sure Noel thought about that as well.

Immediate thoughts as this is a solid job, with a great community who supports their school and coaches well.

Greg Hergott - handoff hire

Eddie Eviston - go into a situation where he is more appreciated & multiple sport athletes are encouraged and necessary.

Bert Bathiany - brings him home.

Ashley Moser - Alumni with a lot of success at CovCath.

I have heard two of these names already, I assume it is all speculation.

On Ashley Moser, he is my dentist too, I love the guy.

I'm wondering if Brian Weinrich is kicking himself right now. Just had to wait it out a couple of years. I would guess Beechwood would of at least entertained it. Right?

I could see Bert Bathiany taking it if they reached out to him. Both he and his Wife are Highlands grads and both sets of Families are here.

Bathiany wanted highlands job, didn’t get it. Not sure how long Sphire stays there, as I’d assume he’ll go after it again as soon as it’s open. In the meantime, I could see him coming closer to home at a well established program. Not sure I’d make a hire knowing someone will bounce, or attempt to bounce shortly after, but maybe he comes in and makes Beechwood his new home. But the days of coaches sticking around at a single place for 15-20 years are over. Noel may the last “lifer” we see in the area.

As for Eviston, I believe he has family at Beechwood, would no longer have to deal with kids leaving because they are told to pick one sport, and would be supported by the community much more than he is at CovCath.

I think Eddie would be good hire if he is interested.

I think he’s everyone’s dentist! Haha I’m pretty sure almost everyone who graduated with him goes to him.

Would not be a good choice.  I got lit up on here when I posted that Weinrich originally went to Beechwood with the thought he would eventually be the next coach.  I believe that was the plan and then he ended up at Newport.

Bathiany will be the next coach at Highlands and like Dale and Hardy used to say, you can write it down and circle it.

You don't think the succession plan will work out?

Greg Hergott (Beechwood Grad, Beechwood Assistant)

Ryan Baugh (CCH Grad, Beechwood Assistant)

Danny Woolley (Beechwood Grad, HC Experience at Scott, Simon Kenton Assistant)

Bert Bathiany (Highlands Grad, Lex Cath HC)

Steve Lickert (Highlands Grad, New Cath HC)

Jeff Barth (Highlands Grad, Walton-Verona HC)

Eddie Eviston (New Cath Grad, Cov Cov HC)

Ashley Moser (Beechwood Grad, Cov Cath Assistant)

I was told by a pretty reliable source that Bob Sphire made the deal with Wes Caldwell (his former player at Lex Cath and the AD who hired him at Highlands) to come back to Kentucky and coach at Highlands with the intent of setting things up at Highlands for the baton to eventually be passed on to Hayden Sphire.
