Two thoughts come to mind as I watch this play out.. 

1. Mixon had a pretty clean run since his mistake in college. The misdemeanor charge (eventually dropped) and now another gun related investigation, time to go. Sometimes, even when sufficient evidence isn't found, enough "similar" run-ins leave an awful fishy smell. Even if Mixon didn't fire the gun it's a run with dogs and get fleas situation, and that's from a gun owner myself. As an organization, especially one on the rise, it's better to react too early than too late. 

2. I sure hope the details coming out now aren't factual, whether Mixon fired the gun or not. Juveniles playing Nerf wars in the neighbors yard and someone from Mixon's residence shot them IN THE NEIGHBORS YARD. That has bad news all over it, even if you thought it was a real gun. 

I think Mixon was going to be a cut candidate before the season. Now it's a must have.

If the report is true Mixon belongs in prison so he will make the Bengals' decision for them.  Furthermore, I think they need to look hard at the other recent alleged gun incident involving him and charge him if they have enough evidence.  However, with the one from the recent past my gut feeling says there was some type of behind the scenes money deal and that one will go away.  I also can't help but think if the first incident was true and it was handled "correctly" there would not have been a second incident. 

Mixon making the Bengals decision to cut him easier. Time to draft the replacement and save the money.

Last season, I wanted to give Mixon a chance, he played in spurts but I think he is good.  With that said, it was really hard for me to argue against people saying, "he got his contract and isn't playing hard on every snap, because he doesn't have to.", hell, I might have lead those charges once I realized it for myself.  I've also heard some not so great stories about Mixon, I know folks that work security in various venues, including Paul Brown Stadium.  I also know people who have done security or driving for Mixon and let's just say, I don't think I've ever heard anything good about him. 

I wanted to give the guy a shot, but after the altercation in Cinci where the female alleged he stated he should shoot her, I was starting to think it was time to move on.  Now there is more smoke, "allegedly" with people on Mixon's property that aren't Mixon.  He needs to be gone, but it will be interesting on how to do it.  If the Bengals think they can find value in a trade, then ok, keep him until the draft, say you're "closely monitoring the ongoing investigations".  If not, cut him now.  I will say this, if he's associated with anything else in the next 6 months, the NFL should probably just randomly test him for prohibited substances and save themselves the grief.

When it comes to guys like Mixon I like to use the 3 to 1 rule, for every one you hear about, there are three more you have no idea about.

At the very least I'd say.  Some guys just can't help but hurt themselves with the choices they make and the people they surround themselves with.

Seems like a reasonable way to describe Joe Mixon.  I just wish that fire would have showed up on the field more, when the real Joe Mixon showed up, he was great.

No one is trading for him even before these allegations because of his contract. Which even before these allegations there was a good chance he was going to get cut anyways unless he agreed to take a big pay cut.
