Not a fan of all the QB draws, and this certainly is a rather vanilla schedule.  With that being said, I'm going to throw out a silver lining.  Last year's schedule was pretty strong.  We played several pretty tough teams but ended up with a significant number of kids on the sidelines injured because of those games.   To the point we had quite a bit of sophomores playing in the Fredrick Douglas game because of injuries. That's not ideal for the playoffs and its especially tough when you play against teams like FD, Bowling Green...etc.  Maybe with a lighter regular season schedule, you reduce your injuries going into the playoffs and are able to redevelop your offensive scheme without getting people killed.  Go Colonels!

I can confirm that Campbell County plays at Cov Cath on Oct 27th. And as we learned earlier today, the Highlands game is at Highlands on Aug 25th.

The district schedule is what it is, but Campbell Co to close the season out? I’m still not sure why Highlands still schedules CC. I get Dixie is a “rivalry” game, but is it really a rivalry in the sense of W and Ls? I agree with the 1980s feel where both teams ran the same offense so the games were closer than they really should’ve been.

Maybe consider not starting all your players both ways and think about coaching them to just be offensive linemen instead of coaching them to play both ways?

I think it will be just fine. It’s not who you play, it’s how you prepare. They will be ready regardless of Boyle, Corbin, or JC in the playoffs.

I’m sorry you don’t like it, I hope you’re able to overcome such a difficult time watching running clock after running clock, kinda like 2017 and 2019, the two best years in school history.

You mean playing the best 11 players on the field? Oh yes, what a horrible idea… and the biggest change EE has brought since the Wirth era, I wonder who has been more successful.

When you have a significant talent advantage, like in 2017 or 18/19 with MM, then you are correct. Just show up off the bus and you are better. When you don't, seeing better size, strength and team speed prepares you for these big playoff games. This is true at every level. I think we are talented, but not that talented.

It's a little different when you are putting running clocks on Columbus De Sales, Indy Chatard and a good Ryle team with Jake Chisholm with your G5 QB, 3 Big Athlete FBS guys, two other players that started at linebacker for FCS and maybe (probably?) the best RB in school history compared to what looks to be on the schedule this year. Also 2019 had maybe the best player in state history that could have been a number 2 TE in the NFL as a 19 year old.

Agreed that playing guys both ways has been a big improvement and needs to be done at a school the size of CCH, but let's be honest, the biggest difference in success was the talent pool from 16-20 and Highlands not only being down, but having a few legitimately bad NKY teams some years. DW is 100% winning a state title with the 2017 roster and very possibly winning another in 18 or 19. EE has been very fortunate not to run up against a Highlands team led by Elite HS QBs that play Power 5 ball or like in 09, the number 2 team in the country. EE is a very good HS coach that does a few things excellent (dropback passing game scheme, called shots, controlling the tempo of the game), but the run game design is honestly poor and simple, some of his playcalling stretches have been bad (1st half vs 22 Highlands, South Warren state title) and some of the personnel decision are head-scratching (not playing the two sophomores at corner opposite Miller to start the year is one). It's year four without a Mayer brother on the team, the staff needs to show it can elevate non top tier NKY talent to deep playoff runs before I start thinking they're an elite coaching staff.

1) I believe you just proved my point. We don’t have the same talent, therefore, it is a matter of how you prepare each week. Sure, playing a tough team here or there can help you get better and see some things you wouldn’t normally, and also make you rise to the occasion. But at the end of the year, aside from a talent loaded roaster from time to time, the best teams are the teams the get better week to week. And you will always get better by proper preparation, you will not always get better by playing better teams. 
 

2) Nitpicking and being upset about who your team running clocks is clearly a mindset of the Park Hills Maria. Can never make them happy!

*Get running clocked by St. X* - “why are we even playing these teams? We will never compete”

*Play LaSalle and win convincingly - “we should play a tougher schedule every year”

*Get beat by elder back to back years - “I will never understand why we continue to play them, not in the same league” 

*Schedule an all NKY schedule due to unknown districts games, standing rivalries, and agreements from a couple years ago - “this is the softest, most boring schedule ever”

CovCath fans, can’t keep ‘em happy for anything. 

3) To say Dave Wirth would have 100% won state bc of the talented he would have had is interesting take, especially because the Park Hills Mafia biggest criticism on him was not that he didn’t have the players, because he did, but the lack of discipline and structure of a program. So no, I don’t believe that was a lock, because high school kids need good discipline and structure to win a state championship. I don’t care how many athletes you have. 

And very fortunate to not run into a loaded Highlands team? Correct, he wasn’t the head coach at CovCath at the time. Wirth was, and Wirth was hired to win games, and win the games on the schedule. Wirth was fortunate not to run into any of those Trinity teams, as well. So compare schedules and teams to whoever and whatever you want, but if you think EE isn’t a better coach than Wirth, I’m not sure what exactly metric you’re looking at. And more importantly, maybe sit back and appreciate we have right now. Because it’s been worse, and one day it will be worse again. It’s been better, and one day it will be better.

And the questioning of a single personnel move to me is always laughable, especially when those making them have spent 0 minutes at practice, 0 minutes in the classroom with the kid, 0 minutes at workouts, and 0 minutes inside the position meetings on why a kid isn’t playing. I’ll confidently say Eddie and staff wants to win, and put the best player available in a position to succeed, for most likely more reason than one. 

Until he opens film session up to the public, I’ll take the staffs word on that.

No I think he is. The point is many coaches are winning a lot from 16-20 with the rosters and by far the biggest historical obstacle not in the way. I’m going to need to see the staff win big with non elite talent that everyone else would win with before we should stop questioning some of what we do. I do think we have a good to pretty good coaching staff, but it’s ok to question things until that point.
