Should local Christmas tournaments come to an end?

Just curious to see what some of you think about this. Over the last several years I have attended numerous local Christmas tournaments, and they are unbelievably poorly attended, which creates a very cold environment for these kids to play in. I know there are still a few ones in the state that may be better attended, but overall attendance seems to be very poor. Maybe I am wrong, but with all the upsets it just seems like it has something to do with how lifeless the environment is in these tournaments.

I'm not sure of the solution.

Thoughts?

I think you're on to something here.  There are just to many tournaments over lapping each other.  You have way too many teams leaving the Commonwealth playing in other states first and foremost.  Many of the local schools should rotate their tournaments on an annual bases, this alone should increase attendance and competitive levels.

Great tournament action, a chance for teams to travel and participate against teams they aren’t used to playing, if teams are against it, let them stay away and miss valuable tourney atmosphere.

Agree on tourney atmosphere being a big plus.

They also give schools the opportunity to showcase their facilities and their hospitality.

Would you tell us which Christmas tournaments you have been to and give us examples of the upsets you're referring to?

Are you suggesting a team's poor play on the floor is a reflection of how well a tournament/game is attended?

Couldn’t feel more strongly about this.   These are great bonding trips for teams that travel. Used to coach at a NKY high school and our Christmas trips down south in hotel rooms were great ways to create team chemistry.

These also allow teams from different areas of the state to see each other. Love these.  If teams don’t like them then they can choose to not participate.

I think attendance is affected these days by the ability of fans to be able to sit in the comfort of their homes and watch the games on streaming services. I don’t know how much it is a factor but I know quite a few people who once came to a lot of local games that now watch them through streams if they are available.

I would 100% rather pay and be there in person than watch from home. I don’t know how many share the same sentiment, but watching the state tourney from home last year stunk! Would much rather had been able to make it in person.

If you’re going off of crowd for these Christmas tournaments imo it be best to start these games later in the day around 3/4 being the earliest games so the community can attend when they get off work. We played in Corbins tourney and the earliest game was at 5 but the gym was wall to wall pack for all 3 games played each day.
