Well it is finally going to happen two of the most talked about teams in central Kentucky the past two seasons will meet for the first time with a trip to the 5A semi-finals on the line. The Yellow Jackets of Woodford Co. (11-1) will come to "The Farm" to take on the Broncos of Frederick Douglass (12-0) as of this post the game time has not been posted.

This game will come down to which teams strength will prevail. The Yellow Jackets come into this game with the most points (553) of any team in 5A and the 3rd highest in the entire state. The Broncos come into the game of allowing the fewest points (54) of any team in 5A and it is also the lowest of any team in the state. Woodford high powered offense is lead by running back Preston Stacy and quarterback Andrew Nasen. Stacy who has rushed for 831 yards and is averaging 8 yards per carry and has 18 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns. Nasen has thrown for just under 1400 yards with 19 touchdowns. He has also rushed for over 750 yards and 9 touchdowns with an average of over 11 yards per carry.

The Broncos will be playing in their 4th straight 5A state quarterfinal. The Broncos are 11-0 and have won 24 of the last 26 over the past two seasons. In past seasons most of the talk has been about the Douglass high powered offenses, but this season it has been their defense. This season the Bronco defense is only allowing a state's best 4.5 points per game and only allowing 97 total yards per game. While the defense gets most of the talk this season the Douglass offense is still pretty good. They are averaging the most points in 5A at just under 50 per game (49.6) they also have the largest scoring margin in 5A at just under 45 points per game. Douglass has a strong running game behind TJ Horton and Davaun Hart who have combined to rush for over 1000 yards and then throw in Cameron Dunn and Ty Bryant and you have a very good rushing game. Quarterback Cole Carpenter has quietly put together a very good season he has thrown for close to 1500 yards with 18 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

This game will as stated above will come down to if the high powered Yellow Jacket offense will be able to move the ball and put together long drives and keep the Bronco offense off the field. I think the Bronco defense will be to much for Woodford in this one. The game can be seen of the NFHS Network.

The Woodford broadcast guy might have a heart attack after hearing that one.

That's a WILD statement when you have an 11-1 5A team that has beaten Ballard, Highlands and Lex Cath.

  • Let's face it, whether in the quarters, semis or the finals, you are going down to this Freddie D team.  Get in line and take it like a man.

Douglass wins 22-20. Probably a lot of penalties between the two teams in the 1st quarter.

Douglass wins, but it’s not that close.

I think it will be a running clock.  I have no idea what Hungover_in_Andover is talking about.

I heard the officials are from NKY for this one.

After the way they acted at SK, they deserve whatever they get, as long as it’s in good fun.

Between the two of them, there has only been one "premium" opponent by my count, with that one being a huge statement win for Douglass over Boyle. I have a hard time believing Woodford is on the same level as Boyle, so I think Douglass rolls in this one.

Will Woodford be the best Offense Douglass has seen this yr?

No.

FD will be too much for the Yellow Jackets.  Coach Johnson is doing great things at Wolford, but Douglass is on another level this year.

You're right, I overlooked Scott County, that's my bad. That just furthers my point that we know Douglass is capable of beating top teams, we don't know that about Woodford.

Wofo lost to Simon Kenton who really isn’t anything special. FD is a lot better than SK so I will take FD big. Probably a running clock in the 3rd quarter.
