Highlands may be better than they showed. But the only way you “beat yourself” is in an intrasquad scrimmage. You especially can’t say that when you lose by 5 touchdowns. Saying you “handed them the game” is being disrespectful to the team that just beat the brakes off you.

Did you watch the game?  Beating themselves to me means mistakes made that cost you an opportunity to win the game.  Believe there were 3 pick six’s, a fumble on own 5 which result in 28 points.  Those are fixable imo.  Dropped a sure fire touchdown on the first play. 
 

All self inflicted.  Despite all of this, the attitude, effort and heart displayed by the team as a whole was terrible.

A lot to improve on in the coming week, but not an insurmountable climb imo.

I understand what it means. However, by saying that, it completely ignores the fact that another team was playing in the game. And to say SW had no impact on Highlands making those mistakes, is at best, disingenuous. Not to mention, SW also still had to take advantage of those mistakes. And in reality, the better team is usually the one who makes the least mistakes. If you lose by 5 scores in a game, you never had an opportunity to win that game. 

The mistakes Highlands made may very well not be an issue when they play a team that's not as good as SW. 

When Highlands was regularly beating folks by 5+ scores, I never heard anyone mention all the "mistakes" the other team made in those games or how the other teams "cost themselves a chance to win the game". 

Even the other stuff you refer to like attitude, effort and heart, are cliches and usually a function of who's the better team. When playing a team that's more talented, it's tough to look good.

That being said, I'm almost certain the Birds are better than they showed last week, and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up having a very good season.

This is what stood out to me the most, and I noticed it after SW’s very first score.

I don’t think Highlands can play anywhere near as bad as they did last week. I know South Warren had a ton to do with that, but I think some of it was self inflicted mistakes that I think they fix this week. 
Even with that, give me SK in this one, with a high scoring close game. SK 42 to Highlands 35.

Last year Crone threw for 340 yards 4 tds in this game. Crone needs 244 yards to be the all time passer at Simon Kenton.

I’m loving all this Highlands is terrible talk. 
 

SW was on point and dominated but Highlands helped them a ton. 4 defensive TDs is freak show stuff. I think SW only had to drive the whole field one time and their average starting drive position was the Highlands 30. I really hope this first game of blunders nestles into SK’s brains because the birds will be ticked off. SK doesn’t even have film of what Highlands was trying to do haha. Should be a good game.

SK has their best QB they’ve ever had in his 4th year starting. Highlands is supposedly all clowns, thumbs and left feet…. What an embarrassment it would be if SK didn’t win this formality of a layup, lock win.
