More of a slap than a punch, in my opinion. But still not a good look.

I don’t know about the end since it’s not a player, but he’s definitely going to lose some time.

Why did he pick that guy who was trying to keep players separated to throw a punch at? Howard totally responsible for entire incident.

I'm saying I don't know that he's going to lose his job immediately - which he would if he had struck a player a la Woody Hayes - but he's definitely going to get a suspension, and probably a fine.  It may cost him his job eventually.

I'm amazed at how mad people get about end-of-game/sportsmanship issues. Pressing while trailing by double digits with under a minute to go? Who cares! Calling a timeout to avoid a ten-second call with under a minute to go? Who cares! It feels like the last two decades have seen an unwritten rule (shoutout baseball!) that says you must play and coach as hard as possible for 39 minutes but the final minute could be construed any number of ways so do everything different. And then both sides get mad about it. Who cares?! Play through the horn, press if you want, take timeouts if you want, shoot the ball with time on the clock to push a lead from 14 to 16. But spare us all the faux outrage that leads to chaotic scenes like today where neither side is bathed in glory and both sides (Wisconsin coach grabs Michigan coach; Michigan coach slaps a Wisconsin coach; Wisconsin assistant does classic DX "suck it" gesture) look absolutely ridiculous.

Post game hand shakes are stupid, especially when they are forced. The NBA and NFL do that right. If players want to stick around and chat with each other, fine. Forcing two teams to shake hands after a heated game is asking for trouble. It’s a miracle this doesn’t happen more.

Are they forced to shake hands in the Big 10?

I just mean that handshakes are expected in most sports. I don’t know if they are actually forced to, but if a team didn’t participate they would be considered poor sports by many. I don’t agree with that.

Gotcha.

I was asking because I've noticed UK not shaking hands a lot this year.  I was thinking that had to do with Covid but wasn't sure if that was just an SEC thing or nationwide.

I go back and forth on the postgame handshake thing.  It's a tough thing to do in instances where play was aggressive and emotions are running high.  Been there and done that.  Probably any athlete has.  

On the other hand, I also think it can speak to immaturity when you lose it or refuse to shake hands.  And I say this as someone who has acted immaturely in those situations.

I don't think he should lose his job over this.  Suspension and fine should be locks though.
