Ethan Atchley named head football coach at Lafayette.

That’s a good hire. Coach Ethan was the OC at LHS and was very successful at LCA as the head man after that. Still boggles me that he left for Bullitt East.

Glad to see Ethan land on his feet.

With a lot of jobs still open I wonder if there was something that caught his eye here. All roads in 6A lead through Louisville so I can't imagine this will be an easy program to turn around especially with Douglass being as strong as they are currently and Station starting to make a push.

Just wondering why he was let go by Bullitt East and why is a coach that was fired at one school suddenly a great hire at another?

Probably because the principal is a football guy and got tired of hearing about him putting out job feelers every year. He is a great hire. I’m close to someone that coaches in Lexington. He told me - couple months ago that he’d heard Atchley was locked in at Lafayette.

That had nothing to do with why Coach Atchley was let go from Bullitt East.  Mr. Mason is a "football guy" and wants nothing more than to see football succeed at Bullitt East.  Coach Atchley understands the game of football better than most and also wanted to see Bullitt East succeed.  But sometimes, believe it or not and as shocking as this may be to some, football isn't the end all be all when decisions are made.

With that being said, I'm happy to see Coach Atchley land at Lafayette.  I'm sure he'll have that program back up and competing again in short order.  I wish he and his family the best of luck going forward.

Lexington football just got better with this hire. Happy for Coach Atchley and happy for the kids at Lafayette. It won't take him long to get that program on track. Largest public high school in the state with lots of talent to pull from.

Even if he was let go, doesn't mean he's not a good football coach.  Sometimes both sides just need a fresh start.

I am not sure what has happened at Lafayette but the head football job was reposted this morning on the FCPS website.

Anyone know what’s going on? Is this a formality?

With this being reposted on fcps.net this morning, I went ahead and unlocked the Lafayette open job thread.
