Open Job: Lincoln County

Look for Levi and possibly a few players to head north on 27 if the right guy isn’t hired. I’ve said from day one that if they don’t take a serious look at Levi he will end up with Crutchfield at Garrard County.

I would say that more than likely happens… Rogers ends up at Garrard when it’s all said and done. I also agree a few key players may just make the trek north too.

Until the football program is given the same attention as the basketball program it will always play second fiddle.

  • I am not a candidate for the Lincoln County job. But, if @Mr.Network accepts the head coaching position, and @theguru is on staff, I will commit to setting up the pylons before the game.  According to

  • I think there is a pretty wide gulf between the jobs that people connect to Josh and those he actually applies for.  Not saying that is the case here, but he doesn't apply or go after a lot of the job

Rogers or Cooper, EITHER ONE, will be a hire that the community supports more than Foley or Jaggers. This is the message I constantly receive when I contact people associated with the program. This is not an insult nor a comparison of resumes, it's just the opinion I constantly receive. Cooper already teaches. He's not being discussed enough but he's been just as important to the rebuild as Rogers was. Regardless, either assistant needs to be the guy, or things for Lincoln Football go south. Just opinions I get, thought I would share.

Being around Lincoln Football for awhile, I think Rogers is the only person out of the four mentioned that should be even considered. That’s for the sake of the football program and Lincoln County as a whole. I know that the community is not happy with the way they let Crutchfield go and not trying to fight Garrard from getting him. We will see if they fight for Rogers or let him slip up and go to Garrard as well.

I can honestly say that this hire will result if I move my child or not. Spending the last 14-15 years helping with little league and raising money with Travis and helping with Spencer only to see we are at square 1 again. Honestly if we don’t hire Levi I’m afraid of who all may leave. A lot of people are standing behind him and Cooper in the area. If the hiring committee don’t see that than it’s a slap in the face to the whole community. Also point out with those two leading weightlifting theirs been 79-85 kids coming out to get ready that speaks volume to me who the kids want to play for!

This is what I'm being told as well. Kids are coming out each day to play for these guys. We will see! Maybe we're all wrong but at first glance, it doesn't appear that the administration plans on hiring either, and that will be a huge mistake.

Crutchfield built the program back to where it needed to be absolutely. He completely changed the culture in Lincoln County. I think to keep the program where it’s at from top to bottom. Rogers is the only acceptable choice for these kids. If they don’t make that hire, more than likely this program takes a steep dive back to where it was before Crutchfield stepped in.

They say winning cures all. Whoever they bring in, if they are successful, will have community support.

Completely honest question here because I totally agree that Crutchfield and his staff brought excitement back to the program and have helped restore it in many ways, so if they hire from within, Lincoln shouldn't miss a beat after graduating one of the largest senior classes in a long time that just so happened to have several good skilled kids and one that many say is the best to ever play there in Clayton Davis?

Lincoln has had 2 winning seasons in 10 years with those 2 seasons being 7-5 and 5-4.  Would some new blood be good or no?

I think whoever the coach is they will have growing pains within the next year or two. The future is very bright with the incoming freshman class. Davis is one of those “once in a lifetime” players coaches get to have. The kid was special and so was the offensive line. Those pieces are hard to replace with a snap of a finger. So, it’s totally understandable for Lincoln to maybe have a rebuild year.

I 100% agree with everything you said and think it's absolutely reasonable to think that a rough season or two aren't out of the question. But, what you said kind of goes to prove my underlying point in asking that as well.  I'm all for all things "culture" and all the fun buzz words that are thrown around this day and age with coaching, and the ironic thing is, those are all things that the coach(es) themselves can say that they helped create. A reflection of them if you will, which is all fine, well and needed.

However, let's not forget (and, not saying you are) you have to have some dudes. You have to have those guys that can take a busted play for a loss and turn it into a 60 yard TD run, the guy who can take a 6 yard hitch to the endzone from 70 out, the big back w decent speed who will just after a while pound (most) the other team into submission. (those things that have nothing to with things that are all "coachey", a reflection of them, but instead the God given DNA-fast twitch muscles that are firing in those athletes and not your opponents).

Culture alone can't win. I love reading about it, but it's so unbelievably over played.

I've seen mediocre programs at best have great culture, buy in, organization, etc just as I've seen talented teams without it.  You've got to have some guys that can do things that you can't coach. They are both like Batman and Robin. Neither can just fly solo.

Absolutely!! Totally agree. You have to have guys that can be game changers. But, the main point I was trying to make is that, kids have to buy in to what the coach expects out of them, how they represent the name on the front of the jersey on and off the field. I think Crutchfield and his staff absolutely did that. I think those kids bought in and that’s why Lincoln has gradually had success build up over the past few years. Of course it takes the right pieces to the puzzle. But, you have to have kids buy in to what the coach wants and expects out of them. I think they let a great coach slip out of their hands in Crutchfield and I hope they don’t let another great coach in Rogers slip out of their grasp too. Rogers can keep those kids bought in to what is expected within the program.

Times have changed, and I get that, but thinking that kids would move to a different community and change schools over a coach they don’t know or haven’t met, is foreign to me.

The boys I played with, played because (1) we loved the game, (2) we loved our school, and (3) we loved our community. We just so happened to love and respect our coach, but we would have worn the Lincoln uniform and played even if Pee Wee Herman was the coach.

It’s a free country and you are free to move wherever you want and send to your kids to whatever school will accept them. I never begrudge anyone for doing what they think is best for their kids. I always did that for mine.

I guess if Levi or Daniel are hired, people can say their threats worked. If not, we’ll see if they enter their kids in the transfer portal.

Welp. Looks like I missed a lot.

Let’s start here!
1- Spencer did good but he only changed the winning attitudes of the players he had in highschool. Kids would run threw a wall for him.
2- nothing and I mean nothing has been done to fix our little league program here since Travis redone it 6 years ago.

In that 1 year we had almost 200 kids playing little league. Since then nobody has kept the work up and we are licking to have 50-60 kids playing now.
we have dropped the ball and our coaches haven’t fixed it period. That’s a problem.

When I say we make the right hire I’m saying we have to hire someone that comes here ready to make a farm system from the little league to middle school and with fixing those problems will eventually fix your high school program. They gotta make a hire who wants to change the culture not just come here win some games and eventually leave for somewhere such as Boyle.
Kids could stand behind Levi knowing he’s done it threw every level of Lincoln football and would do everything to get it back to that level.
