St. X and Trinity do in a sense since have more than 100 players and can't take them all. I think St.X may travel with a few less than home games since Coach Wallace has been there.

Not many schools in Kentucky have the numbers X and T have.

On to football!  With gameday now just 2 days away, I thought we could steer to some of the Keys of the game for both teams:

Highlands -

1. My man @Bird Bath reported one of the strengths of this Highlands club was their offensive line.  That position group with be going up against likely the best position group for BG (their defensive line).  Who wins this battle will likely have a leg up in this game.  For Highlands to win, their offensive line must shine!

2.  Highlands offensive skill guys - QB Noon; WR  Welch, TE Group; RB Group will have opportunities to make plays in this game.  When that opportunity presents itself, Highlands must make those plays.

3.  Highlands defense needs to put and keep pressure on the BG offense.  BG's offense is inexperienced.  Highland should blitz, fake blitz, and generally make the BG QB uncomfortable all night.  Look to be aggressive and create turnover opportunities.

Bowling Green -

1.  The BG defense returns the core of a strong unit that looks to continue being one of the better defenses in the state.  They played well in last Friday's scrimmage with a very good Male offensive unit.  Should BG win the toss, look for them to go on defense first and try to go 3 and out to set the tone for this game!

2.  Yes, the BG offense is inexperienced as mentioned above, but QB Spencer Newman has played in this Rafferty's Bowl game before back in 2019.  However, it seems fitting to get his feet wet with some easy bubble screen passes, hand offs, etc. to get him in the game before trying more challenging plays.  But after this inoculation period, be creative in your play calling.

3.  Win the kicking game.  Last week BG surrendered an over the punters head snap that resulted in a Male TD.  Let that be the last poor special teams play of the season.

X Factor- Turnovers - This is a softball I know, but is really true for an emotional, momentum ebbing and flowing game.

Predication - While I think Highlands is coming to win this game, I just think BG is in a better position with more known position groups to ultimately get the job done for the Purples:

Perfect write up, 88!  Will be a lot of fun (and very interesting) to see how everything unfolds.  I think there is a Purple or two that the fans yet know about. After Saturday night, these names of players will soon be a lot of topic of conversation!

Let the games begin...

Great writeup as always @Purple88

I know very a little about Highlands. Seems like many on this board don't think they are very good given people's score predictions. Maybe BG is just a lot better than them and they can just line up against them and beat them. Barring that I see this being a low scoring game.

I have a feeling BG's offense will really struggle and be really limited to short passes and runs. Which is fine, but if Highlands defense is any good at all they should have some success.

On the flip side BG's defense is really good. I think for any team to score on them they are going to have to really earn it and maybe have some luck involved.

I see at least two offensive turnovers for BG in this game and those could be costly. There are just so many unknowns about Highlands it's hard to predict. BUT given BG's limited offense I think it will be a close game.

Are teams limited to 80 roster players for Varsity?

Maybe the 2nd bus is for moral support and underclassman that will not see playing time.

Bowling Green 28-14.

Yes, 80 is limit.

I assume some do, especially in special circumstances.

Anyone?

When I played for Bowling Green we had travel teams, I see no issue with it personally.

Regarding the travel conversation, I'll just say this.  If you look at the schedules from the Georgia schools that Sphire previously coached at, he's extremely familiar with a 3+ hour travel time for regular season away games and I believe has a tried and true method to that process.

As for the game, I just want to see Highlands play fast and physical.   Everything I've seen and heard from Sphire, he has two very admirable leadership qualities, 1) He calls it like he sees it.  He doesn't sugarcoat much and wants everyone to be crystal clear on where the program is.  2) But he also never fails to end everyone of those conversations with a hard determination that they're going to fix it.

Either way, can't believe it's already here and looking forward to a great atmosphere Saturday night.

Looks like the weather folks have updated their forecast for Saturday. Scattered storms with rain during the day with 50 percent change of rain at night.

Something to keep an eye on.
