He doesn’t need to deal with people like me questioning his coaching. I certainly wanted him to go out with another title or FF run, but the wheels are falling off. Oh, he has the resume & financial portfolio to do whatever he wants. But Cal is also a proud guy. I just wonder if that pride would allow him to leave after his worst year. Of course, he also likes to prove to people he was right, and what better way to do that then go to Indiana and rebuild them to a giant again. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Are storm clouds brewing for Kentucky basketball | Your Sports Edge.pdf 812.81 kB · 7 downloads Not a bad read, but the article loses a lot of credibility when it said he has had two inexplicable losses in the elite 8 in the last five years. One of those loses was a last second shot to the best team in the country in UNC. A UNC who basically returned their whole team from the previous years National Runner Up team. There was nothing inexplicable about a lost on a last second shot to a team that was the top team in the country. Also when he talks about Cal leaving those other programs. He left those programs not because of the reasons he said. He left those programs, just like almost any coach in America would have to pursue a top job. It wouldn’t have mattered if the Camby situation was never a thing. Any coach would leave Umass to be a NBA head coach if they could. Then same with Memphis, he wanted the UK job after Tubby and before the Rose situation. Any coach would have left Memphis to come to UK. Plus in both cases, was going to be a pay raise. So he didn’t leave those teams because of the situation. He left those teams, because of a ten times better situation presented itself, a situation almost any coach would have took. Now if he were to leave UK on his own, say after this year. This would be the first time, he most likely would be leaving because of the situation, and not getting a better job or more money by leaving. Now the rest of the stuff, is basically the same stuff as we all have discussed on here. Which I even have said his latest comments after the last game were not good at all.
January 19, 20215 yr I truly believe that 2015 loss to Whisky has taken something out of CAL and BBN. Should have never lost that game.............

I think people have revisionist history with the 2014-2015 team. UK had their steamrolling moments, no doubt. But this wasn't a 1991 UNLV style tour-de-force happening. There were many chinks in the armor and close calls along the way, they just happened to remain undefeated. College basketball was good up top that season, too. Wisconsin was a team of vets returning to the Final Four themselves (with pro talent), came in with 35 victories, and were only a 4.5 - 5 point underdog. It wasn't Virginia/UMBC. This registered as a 0 out of 10 on the shock factor scale. A 10 out of 10 on the disappointment scale. Since that loss UK has been a 4, 2, 4, and 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. Last year probably would have been a 2 or 3 seed. A bounce or two from a couple other Final Fours. I assign a lot of value to seed lines because I think that is a better gauge of where a program is instead of how they did in a single elimination tournament. I am not saying those seeds are good or bad, just offering perspective. Here is the stupid thing about judging coaches on the NCAA tournament. Had UK been a 10, 9, 12, and 7 seed the above mentioned years, but by luck made it to the heralded "Final Four" a couple more times by beating no team higher than a 7 seed, people would think Cal is still on top of his game.
January 20, 20215 yr Duke is also out of the top 25 now. When was the last time Duke and Kentucky were both out of the top 25 at the same time? I wonder if the Duke fans are asking if it is time for Coach K to go? Point to ponder. The two teams that have battled in recent years for the one and dones are both out of the top 25. Hmmmmm. Does that tell us something?

Does that tell us something? Yesterday I saw 1961 was the last time UK, Duke, and UNC were all outside the top 25. As far as UK and Duke, I know they were both unranked in 2007. UK finished as an 8 seed, losing in the second round of the tournament to KU. Duke finished as a 6 seed, losing first round to VCU. But yes, definitely time for Coach K to go. Not sure who the Travis Ford equivalent is at Duke? Wojo? Yeah, bring him in.
January 21, 20215 yr Nick Saban is Nick Saban because football is a different animal. It always has been, and always will be. The same exact teams win in football every single year. There is no parity at all. It's a numbers game - blot out the sun with superior numbers. Basketball has more teams with a path and while it's not as if total unknowns often come out of nowhere to win college basketball, the true favorite very rarely wins. (Also, not for nothing, but saying "we thought we were getting Nick Saban".... Saban was in his third year at Bama when he won his first title and that was the year Cal was hired. So I doubt anyone compared him to Saban at the time.) Has the game passed Cal's strategy by? It's debatable. There's an argument to be made. But this is one single truly bad year. He hasn't had another. The hyperbole is insane.

He hasn't had another. The hyperbole is insane. Great post. And for those saying the game or strategy has passed by Calipari, what are you referencing? Him recruiting top level talent? "One and done" is not a guarantee and I will bet every penny I own there are 0 teams that would bypass on Anthony Davis, John Wall, or Karl Towns because they are out the door in one season. Now maybe they haven't snagged them at their schools, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't take them. Recruit less "one and dones"? Well, that's basically what Calipari has been doing the last few years. Now they are criticized for not being good enough. With coaching. People keep acting like college basketball has evolved into the NBA stylistically. Some teams play that way, but most do not. The kids don't possess that level of skill. Let's look back at ancient history.... the last NCAA title game played. We had the Virginia Cavaliers (the equivalent of watching paint dry, we can't have that at UK) against Texas Tech (a grinding team with a leading grad-transfer, we don't like either of these, either). Let's be clear. It is all about results. Fans could not care less who is on this team or how long they stay if UK is winning. Fans could not care less if UK hits 0 threes or 18 in game as long as UK is winning. Something may be amiss in the program or with Cal, but it is much nuanced than "these kids don't care" or "Calipari sucks at coaching."
