Louisville’s back court is just better, even with a probably starter out in Minlend. If Malik Williams plays, this game isn’t close. I do love all the “Louisville still isn’t that good “ coming out of BBN, but it’s to be expected.

On to conference play.

No doubt.

It worked out in the end, but UL taking the air out the ball the last few minutes was odd. I would get if they were up 8+ points, but they got tentative when it felt the death blow was coming.

It’s the worst strategy in all of sports, I hate it. Never change what’s working to try to run out the clock.

Did anyone notice Louisville calling the timeouts late in the game under the one minute mark? They were doing that so Cal could try and set up an offensive play and obviously it worked out for Louisville. Can’t remember seeing that any at all but with an inept coach like Cal late in games it was an effective ploy. Very sad scenario.

I am guessing those time outs were to set up defensive plays to stop KY, not let Cal hang himself.

No, it is complicated apparently. If I’ve learned anything in my years of watching college hoops, it’s that kids have no idea of time and circumstance. This isn’t a UK thing, it’s every team.

With Cal though everything is about the NBA, he should be teaching the 2 for 1, it was even coming out of a TO, guys, inbound it to BJ, 1 on 1 to the lane, if they help kick and take a 3, even if it’s a bad shot, we’ll get the ball back, not complicated.

Yep!!  And Cal was in the NBA, why didn’t he go 2 for 1 with 46 seconds left????

Ordinarily, I despise 2 for 1.  I’m of the opinion that one good shot is better than two bad ones.  However, with a REALLY poor-shooting team, two bad shots are probably better than one bad shot.  Maybe one of them will accidentally fall in.

I’m anxious to hear the excuses Cal makes, and even more anxious to hear the excuses others make for Cal.

“We’re young. We’ll be fine in March”.

Somebody should tell Cal they’re probably not going to be playing very long in March unless they win the SEC tourney

Tim Sullivan of the Courier-Journal called this season BBN's "Magical Misery Tour."    I thought that was pretty witty.   His comment was  actually made before the UL loss.

I think both teams will be better by March. Louisville has some young guys and will get Charles Minlend back soon and Malik Williams later in season. Kentucky young guys will improve. They have had some close losses that will turn into wins later in season.

They aren't getting anywhere nesr enough from the guys that are supposed to be the best players.

The quote on the post game show went something to the effect that if your best performers are the 6th man from Creighton and the 8th man from Rhode Island you are in serious trouble.  Thats kind of where they were at today.

Cal was complaining about his tough schedule and how they needed easier games.  Well I look at it like this:

Morehead State is just plain awful. Georgia Tech and Notre Dame are bottom feeders in the ACC.  North Carolina is barely hanging in as a Top 20 team and by season end will be middle of the pack ACC I think, Louisville playing down 2 starters and others getting over Covid, and Richmond is not in a power 5 and would be a normal opponent.  Richmond also best UK as badly as they beat Vandy and Northern Iowa.  They beat Loyola Chicago by 2 and lost to Hofstra.  My point being I am not sure the schedule, unless they played just the absolute bottom of the barrel would have helped.

Kansas is legit.  But that is also normal for that 1 game every year.

I would just like to hear someone admit that maybe they overestimated some players ability and need to make some adjustments in order to right the ship.  Instead its the schedule is too hard, the conference is what matters ( I can't recall Cal ever hanging his hat on conference games but then again I don't hang on his every word), we are young and need time together to do team building, etc.

Excuses is not what this team needs right now from the head coach although I knew that’s what would happen. How about the head coach doing the job he is really paid well to do and quit looking for excuses. Personally I don’t think he is capable of coming up with creative ways for this team to succeed. The talent level in today’s game was even so why didn’t his coaching abilities take his team to a win? If the head coach doesn’t do their job then please spare the public and supporters with hapless excuses and lip service.

This, plus what Deuce said about UL's backcourt being better.
