Agreed. It absolutely sucks out loud that it's got to happen, but you're right. There's no sense in killing everyone else's shot at playoffs just because some people say no. Realistically, you're only doing much impact to 5A and 6A...although removing Central from 4A pulls a definite contender from the mix to appear in the state finals.

That guts 5A District 3...so you move that one remaining team into 5A District 4, and probable slide one of the six teams from 5A District 1 into District 4 as well.

In 6A, that negates District 7, and leaves you to combine District 3, District 4, and District 5 into one district with only three teams.

It is crazy but it just shows you the powers that be in Fayette County and Jefferson County do not put children first.  It is despicable and we need school choice for everyone and before you know it districts like that will implode.  Not to mention the good football coaches in those school systems have to be looking for job opportunities in other places.

In all likelihood the only one of these teams that have a chance at winning a championship would be FD and it’s not guaranteed by no means.

Anyone who has spent a few minutes on BGP knows that I am a huge supporter of mask wearing, social distancing and ultimate respect for COVID.  However, I strongly disagree with these football teams and other sports where athletes and coaches have done a great job avoiding infection being punished just because others in their community have not done a good job.  My opinion is teams should get to play on unless they have an infection within their team.  Even if a team has an infection, if the rest of the team gets tested and tests negative,  that team should get to play on without the infected players. I don't like group punishment and that is what this is.

I would tend to agree. The only issue is that rapid testing is still not readily available in all areas. Most tests take 48-72 hours to get results, so if someone comes down with Covid, it's going to be tough to get the whole team tested, and results back to save the game that week. Now that would likely get you back for the following week, assuming all is well, but it really wouldn't help for the playoffs, where if you don't play that week, there is no next week.

Could not disagree more with you.  Deuce is correct on this one.  Football, nor any other single activity is the measure of putting STUDENTS first.  I don't like the decision from a coach standpoint, but there are valid reasons for the decision.

This is the common sense approach and answer.  But common sense is dead.  Fear reigns supreme these days.

It makes zero sense to cancel games when kids and/or coaches do not have COVID.  If we're going to continue in this line of thinking, we might as well just stay locked inside our homes for the rest of our lives because what we're saying is, nothing is safe anymore.

Has anyone seen the list of suspicious symptoms requiring testing these days? When this started in February the concerning symptoms were “cough,” “shortness of breath” and “fever.”

Now you can add:

Fatigue

nausea

vomiting

headache

Muscle aches

Loss of sense of taste or smell

rash

sore throat

joint aches

nasal congestion

abdominal pain

Chest pain

They might as well add “wakes up in the morning” and “goes to bed at night” to the list. Current research shows that people who have tested positive will continue to have a positive test for 3-5 months following recovery.

Referring back to my previous post with 90,000 people tested of all walks of life and less than 1% of those even being sick enough to require hospitalization: how do you justify taking things away from kids because of an illness that will have minimal impact on well over 99% of the population?
