WCardinal
I would have to agree with a few here. He did not look like a Mr. Football in this game. Great player, but I feel there are a few others that are just as great if not better than him imho.
Voice of Reason
He did not have his best game stat wise but give credit to the LCA on making things difficult. Hergott made the plays that earned his team a title and earned him the game MVP. Some of the other contenders had the same opportunity and didn't get the job done. For example, the first time Sheron faced LCA he threw 3 interceptions. He faced LCA twice and lost both times. When you face really good teams, the stats can suffer some. Hergott made the plays in the last two games that won a title and that carries a LOT of weight.
BillNye
He won the game. He won MVP of the game. To be specific, the win was an imperfect perfection. He has my vote. Who in the state could compare with the resume from this year after stapling a title to it?
REH5
There are people a lot smarter than me to make this decision but the young man did all that could have been expected out of him this year and capped it off with the big trophy.
gbballfan21
To me it’s real simple. In what was probably Cam Hergott’s “Worst” game of the season, he still accounted for over 250 yards of offense and 3 TDs, and was the MVP of the State Championship game. Let that sink in for a minute while everyone wants to poke holes in his game Friday. His throw to Mitchell Berger on 4th and 10 and the game on the line in the 4th quarter was unbelievable. He had to avoid a sack and on the run delivered a strike to the only possible place the ball could be thrown for Berger to make that great catch. Big time players make big time plays, and with the season on the line the kid stepped up to make a crucial play. I think the fact that Cam Hergott’s “Worst” game was an MVP performance in the Class 2A State Title game against a very good LCA team that knocked off one of the other front runners for Mr Football, not once, but twice this year, should speak volumes about the kind of season that Cam Hergott has put together!
gbballfan21
Also, for people that want to say that Mr Football is more of a career award, here is some food for thought. Career Stats Cam Hergott 441-673 65.5% 6,214 Yards 65 TDS 20 INTs 366 Rushes 2376 Yards 34 TDS Total Offense 8,590 Yards 99 TDS Kaiya Sheron 413-640 64.5% 7,080 Yards 56 TDS 16 INTS 248 Rushes 1929 Yards 25 TDS Total Offense 9,009 Yards 81 TDS Hergott MVP of the 2018 Class A and 2020 Class AA State Championship games. Sheron MVP of the 2019 Class AA State Championship game. Head to Head Hergott beat Sheron in 2018 Sheron beat Hergott in 2019 2020 Hergott 1-0 vs LCA 2020 Sheron 0-2 vs LCA Senior year advantage Hergott Career Stats are virtually a dead heat

Why these all state teams are a joke.

On offense, yes. There were a few on defense as well.

Better all-around QB..yes. That vote is a slap in the face of NKY football and, in particular, Beechwood/Cam Hergott. * Wimsatt didn't have the numbers, a simple look will tell you that, and also didn't win state. * As great as Sherron is, he shouldn't be above Hergott, whose numbers were better, went further this year, has won TWO state titles, and is a better two-way threat. * McNamee...again, tip of the cap to that young man who is a heck of a player, but..seriously? Not in the same ballpark statistically, accomplishments this year, or career accomplishments. If you're reading this and you believe Hergott shouldn't, at minimum, be second on that list or, worse, actually VOTED that way, you should be ashamed of yourself for putting personal agendas/territorial interests ahead of your integrity. Ridiculous.

Ridiculous. I can only hope he didn’t get put to an all state team because he’s going to win Mr. Football. One could only hope though. The kid is so deserving it’s ridiculous. You beat the team Sherron didn’t, in the state finals and you get honorable mention? Come on. We’ve read the stats, on who is better. I don’t get these awards. Never will. tcjkbt
Who chose this All-State team? I believe the article said it was chosen by coaches and that 90 of them returned ballots.
