I would have to agree with a few here. He did not look like a Mr. Football in this game. Great player, but I feel there are a few others that are just as great if not better than him imho.

He did not have his best game stat wise but give credit to the LCA on making things difficult. Hergott made the plays that earned his team a title and earned him the game MVP. Some of the other contenders had the same opportunity and didn't get the job done. For example, the first time Sheron faced LCA he threw 3 interceptions. He faced LCA twice and lost both times. When you face really good teams, the stats can suffer some. Hergott made the plays in the last two games that won a title and that carries a LOT of weight. 

He won the game. He won MVP of the game. To be specific, the win was an imperfect perfection.  
 

He has my vote. Who in the state could compare with the resume from this year after stapling a title to it?

There are people a lot smarter than me to make this decision but the young man did all that could have been expected out of him this year and capped it off with the big trophy.

To me it’s real simple.

In what was probably Cam Hergott’s “Worst” game of the season, he still accounted for over 250 yards of offense and 3 TDs, and was the MVP of the State Championship game. Let that sink in for a minute while everyone wants to poke holes in his game Friday. His throw to Mitchell Berger on 4th and 10 and the game on the line in the 4th quarter was unbelievable. He had to avoid a sack and on the run delivered a strike to the only possible place the ball could be thrown for Berger to make that great catch. Big time players make big time plays, and with the season on the line the kid stepped up to make a crucial play. 

I think the fact that Cam Hergott’s “Worst” game was an MVP performance in the Class 2A State Title game against a very good LCA team that knocked off one of the other front runners for Mr Football, not once, but twice this year, should speak volumes about the kind of season that Cam Hergott has put together!

 

Also, for people that want to say that Mr Football is more of a career award, here is some food for thought.

I can only hope he didn’t get put to an all state team because he’s going to win Mr. Football. One could only hope though. The kid is so deserving it’s ridiculous. You beat the team Sherron didn’t, in the state finals and you get honorable mention? Come on. We’ve read the stats, on who is better. I don’t get these awards. Never will. 

Who chose this All-State team?     I believe the article said it was chosen by coaches and that 90 of them returned ballots.
