December 9, 200619 yr I got my first speeding ticket tonight. 69 in a 55 on US68 between Paris and Lexington. I'm kind of curious, who has the most tickets out of us? And, if some of you know, what are my rights if I get pulled over? Can I ask to see the radar? Can I verbally contest the ticket then and there? Until then, you kind find me writing my check for $166.:madman:
December 9, 200619 yr You can ask but you have no right to see the radar/laser. You can't formally protest the ticket in person. Your only course of action is to contest the citation in court. If I were you I would go to traffic school and slow down. And, I agree with you, the citations are way too expensive.

Or you can let the judge decide if you are guilty or not. You cannot verbally contest it if you mean overrule the officer but you can try to talk him or her out of it. The best thing to do is tell the officer you were speeding and WHY and see if he lets you go with a warning if you have a good reason for speeding (if you were speeding in the first place) and if it wasn't you speeding, try to convince the officer it wasn't you. If that doesn't work, then go see your local county attorney and ask for a "diversion" which is a dismissal on the condition of no further violations for 6 months which gives you no points, no fine or costs. This usually makes everyone happy if your record is not littered with violations. Some counties, Oldham, Scott and Clark are tough to get breaks in. So is Fayette.
December 9, 200619 yr I got my only speeding ticket in 2002. I was doing 58 in a 35. It was 2 am on a Saturday morning. I thought all the cops were at Denny's, like they are the 51 other Saturdays in a year. I told him I was going home, which I was. I also told him who my mother is. She's a county politician. So he proceeded to write me about a $200 ticket. My mom called the county attourney and it was dismissed. It's good to have the right friends. I'm not sure I could get the next one dropped. But so far, that's been my only one. But I would definitely recommend traffic school if it doesn't get dropped.
December 9, 200619 yr I've gotten two speeding tickets, though I got pre-trial diversions on both of them. Both of them were during a two week span. One was an 81 in a 65 on Natcher Parkway in Ohio County, then two weeks later a 49 in a 35 (I thought it was 45, which was my ignorance). I was also pulled over one other time but given a warning because I used good manners. I think that's one of the big things to do. Use proper manners with the officer, and sometimes you can get out that way. Both of the actual tickets I appeared in court (never just write the check), and dressed the part. Suit and tie. That alone got me out of the Ohio County ticket.
December 9, 200619 yr The only time I have been pulled over was when i was with someone else an they were driving. Never been pulled over with myself driving (knock on wood).
December 9, 200619 yr I've had 2. I was going 88 in a 55 & had to go to court/driving class for that one & got another one going 66 in a 55. Got that ticket taken care of though.

Your lack of respect for law enforcement, telling them you have connections, and your avatar lead me to believe that you have two chances of avoiding incarceration at some point in your lifetime...slim and none. And slim's out of town.
December 9, 200619 yr I received two in a months span my Sr year of HS. I received one in '95, one in '97, one in '99, and one this year, the last three set me back a few, and I agree with Ru, they are too costly.
December 9, 200619 yr Never had a speeding ticket. My dad didn't speed, and would often point out the car the flew by sitting at the same light off the exit. Parking tickets were more my thing...
December 9, 200619 yr I've only had 2 tickets in my driving career. One was at 3AM on the Bluegrass Parkway, at 90 in a 65. I was coming home from finals, was tired, and wanted to get in bed. Seeing how tired I was, the nice officer knocked it down to 5 over. Still cost like 150 bucks. The second one was on Turkeyfoot, where the cops ALWAYS sit. 55 in a 35. That one was actually dropped though, as I showed up in court and the officer didn't show.
December 9, 200619 yr Only one - going 49 in a 35 in Mount Orab, Ohio. I thought I was already in the 45 zone, but alas, no. Gotta watch those small Ohio towns that go from 35 to 45 to 55 all in the space of a mile or so. Cost me ninety five bucks but all I had to do was mail in the check; no court appearance. Anyway, not too bad for 35 years of driving.
December 9, 200619 yr If a officer gives you a citation is he supposed to make you sign the ticket and give you a copy? The reason I ask is I got a letter in the mail a couple weeks ago saying I had 30 days to pay this ticket or my license are going to be revoked:irked: . And the only time I was pulled over in the last year is Labor Day weekend 67 in a 55. The officer took my license came back to the car and said drive careful and slow down. I just assumed he had given me a warning, but he apparently wrote me a ticket. Went and talked to the judge and he probated the ticket for a year.
December 9, 200619 yr I've had four total, three in this state.. However the only one I have had to pay was the out of state one. It was in North Carolina, I think the officer was a duke fan and didn't like the looks of my UK plates. But it cost me $130 for 80 in a 65 and $100 of that was for court costs, the actuall ticket was only $30.
