December 9, 200619 yr Author I've had four total, three in this state.. However the only one I have had to pay was the out of state one. It was in North Carolina, I think the officer was a duke fan and didn't like the looks of my UK plates. But it cost me $130 for 80 in a 65 and $100 of that was for court costs, the actuall ticket was only $30. I feel you. Mine is $28 for the actual ticket, $138 for the court costs. I just don't want to have to drive back to Bourbon Co. to contest it!

May as well go ahead and write the check then.. If you contest it, and lose, I believe you will have added court costs too.. I would have to ask my father to be sure, but I think court costs in this state are something like $33 a day..?
December 9, 200619 yr I get frustrated when your going down the highway doing the limit and a cop goes flying by you with no lights or sirens on.
December 9, 200619 yr I get frustrated when your going down the highway doing the limit and a cop goes flying by you with no lights or sirens on. And half of the time it will be an officer nowhere near the county they actually have jurisdiction in, just going to Richmond or something for training..
December 9, 200619 yr In Kentucky, you do not get to see the radar, you do not have to sign the ticket, you do not pass Go, you do not collect $200. My advice to anyone pulled over is to not make any statements in response to "do you know how fast you were going," "where are you headed," etc. You have a 5th Amendment right, even on speeding tickets. Unless you are on a "limited access highway" (read freeway or parkway) doing less than 15 MPH over, ANY speeding ticket is going to cost you points on your drivers record, at least 3. For speeding 15 MPH or more over in any event, its going to cost you 6 points. If you are more than 25 MPH over, you lose your license for 90 days. You are NEVER advised by either officer or paperwork that when you simply "pay," your fine, you are actually pleading guilty and the points go directly on your record. When points go on your record for a moving violation, the insurance companies, which ALL run your record once a year, will catch it and the average rise in insurance costs on a single auto policy is over $230. For multiple cars, it goes up an average of $410. It is true that "traffic school" will keep points off your record, and for a 6 pt. or greater violation, I'd use it. You get one traffic school per calendar year. However, most prosecutors around the state will not generally agree to traffic school if they start seeing a lot of speeding tickets on your record. My recommendation is to pay $100-$200 and hire a lawyer. The cost of hiring one will generally be less than the money you will lose now and in the future if your insurance rates rise. The lawyer "generally" can negotiate an amendment of your ticket. It saves you from having to appear in court, and you can save your traffic school for in the event something more serious occurs. Just my, concededly biased, two cents.
December 9, 200619 yr I got a ticket in Georgetown, Ky. doing 72 in a 55, total cost was $150.00 for the ticket. I went to traffic school cause I don't think I could afford a increase in the insurance.
December 9, 200619 yr I've had a bunch of tickets over the years, had one in Livingston co, one in McCracken Co., one in Lyon Co., one in Henderson co and one in Calloway co., then I had one in Ashland, OH, and one in Union City, TN. Been let go too many times to count. Up until the 2 out state ones it had been a while. One thing I do know is, Ohio tickets are cheap
December 9, 200619 yr One thing I do know is, Ohio tickets are cheap Yes they are.. However they make up for that by writing a lot more of them..
December 9, 200619 yr Yes they are.. However they make up for that by writing a lot more of them.. yea mine was total bull, i was drving down 75 or 71, not sure which runs from cleveland to cincy, anyway, beside a semi and one of its tires blew out and it started swerving back and forth so i gunned it past the semi to get out of its way and thats when the cop caught me and that jerk wrote me a ticket even though i explaned what I was doing and pointed out all the tired shards on the road and the stopped semi:madman:
December 9, 200619 yr I've only got one ticket. It was in Ballard Co., for 74 in a 45 (I thought it was 55). The officer knocked it down to 69. Since I was a student in high school I got the option of surrendering my liscense for 3 weeks and the ticket was dropped, as long as I didnt get another one in the next 3 months.
December 9, 200619 yr No ticket for me, but my girlfriend has had SEVEN. Safe to say when we go out I am driving.:ylsuper:
December 9, 200619 yr Never had a speeding ticket. My dad didn't speed, and would often point out the car the flew by sitting at the same light off the exit. Parking tickets were more my thing... Dont even get me started on parking tickets. Besides tuition, this is where colleges make some good money is parking tickets. There is always some fake rent-a-cop wanna be security guard out there that loves to give college kids parking tickets. I REALLY hate those dudes. :fight:
