Someone should alert the schools winning them as nearly all of them use the term "All A State Champs". If you aren't sure that is correct, google search "All A State Champs", in quotes, and enjoy the

I never had glory days.

Which, ironically, is the same thing that classification would bring. More trophies for more teams as they are separated by classes determined by an arbitrary number.

I am not against classification. At least at that point it would be run by the governing body of KY HS sports, a real trophy would be given, all teams would participate, and it would be at the end of the season.

Classes would not be arbitrary as KHSAA gets enrollment numbers from KDE and regularly evaluates class sizes.

Look, coming from the perspective of someone that has experience in a district with an "All A" school it is really annoying that this tournament holds everyone's schedule hostage for 3 weeks in middle of the season and these "All A" schools refuse to schedule other games during that time because they might still be playing in a tournament when we are trying to get the necessary district games in.

I am against classification in non football sports because I don’t feel like we have the population to support it. With classification all it will do is continue the separation of the have and have nots. Folks think it is bad now wait until classification comes and the same 3-5 schools are winning state every year in every class.

Just like football.

The All A Classic is large and it gives the smaller schools a chance to be champions in their own right without affecting the Sweet 16 championship. The best part about the All A Classic is that they do it in pretty much every sport for boys and girls. Yes, it can be a scheduling nightmare and yes sanctioned classification might change that. I know multiple coaches who heavily advocate for it yearly. If it happens it happens. I honestly won’t care. I do think the All A Classic and the AA Classic fill the void of classification for basketball and I am 100% good with that.

The numbers become arbitrary once they are set. Just like enrollment numbers change they can change classification specifications whenever they want to in order to fit whatever criteria they choose. The classified sports in KHSAA all have a different criteria for how they specify their classes. Football and Track and Field are not the same. Basketball and football would not be the same.

IMO that makes those numbers arbitrary.

3 weeks? It is basically one week for all but 16 schools. For the ones that make it, two weeks. All A schools definitely will take that to be able to play in it.

Nobody made you read it...

Not to mention, none of this has anything to do with "glory days," but a group of people having a discussion about a topic they enjoy.

It simply isn't a priority for most of the schools in the area of the state I live, and maybe because of that I will never fully understand it. For true "A" schools it is probably a great thing. At the 2A level the number of teams that have a legitimate chance of winning the real title increases exponentially and I think that tournament is pretty useless.

I'm not a grown man, thank you very much.

I don’t disagree. The only point I have been trying to make is that those tournaments give us a really good glimpse into classification. The results we see in those tournaments would be extremely similar to results in tournaments based on classification.

As long as those tournaments are accessible to everyone eligible then I don’t see the need for classification. All classification would do is have those tournaments fold at some point with the same teams playing in March instead of January. For some folks that’s a win. For me, I’m good with how it is now.

I’m fine either way though. I’ll follow along with whatever is out there because I am always interested in the results.

If basketball were ever to be classed, two classes is all you need. I don’t care if it’s classed or not, as long as not more than two.
