That was my thinking in the update thread.

According to KHSAA Riherds scoreboard Boyle kicker was 86-87 on PAT kicks, but was just 2-3 today and the miss proved costly. Had him at 8-8 on field goals, per MaxPreps longest FG was 38.

Story of the game for Boyle in a way. Their play calling was very reliant on the big play or the statement that never got made instead of taking what JC was giving them.

In a close game like this one, I can't help but wonder if the comments made by Boyle County played a role as it provided the extra motivation/adrenaline needed by JC. I am certain it was mentioned to the players multiple times during the course of the game.

 

My mind says it had no effect, but heart says it did. One thing is certain, it galvanized the mountain fan bases (even bitter rivals) to route against Boyle County like nothing I have ever witnessed. They all stayed and counted to 100 together in the stands at the end.....loudly!

 

Like Jim Matney said, JC didnt want an apology, they wanted respect. Tonight they got it!

These were your top two teams all year in 4A. No one else was ever really in the conversation. You've got two GREAT coaches, two talented, experienced rosters, plus a pair of well seasoned field general quarterbacks.

 

I don't think football fans here could have asked for more from a competitive, edge of your seat standpoint. These are two heavyweight programs that delivered the goods.

Johnson Central pulled off the win by playing smart, poised almost mistake-free football. No turnovers and very few if any penalties. Their margin of loss last year was 2 points because of a missed extra point and coming up short on a tying two point conversion late. Kind of fitting that they won this year with a similar circumstance. The experience they have had from going to the finals the last few years seemed to have helped them today. Congratulations to the Golden Eagles!
