Belfry is 16-3 All-Time vs. Private Schools. On the year Belfry is 1-1 with a loss to Alter (OH) and a win over LCA.

 

Belfry has only played one private school from Louisville, they defeated Holy Cross in the 2008 Pike County Bowl, 49-14. All of these games save a loss to NewCath in 1955 have been under Coach Haywood.

 

Belfry is 4-6 against teams from Louisville. Five of those losses came to Central, four of which in the State Finals. Belfry defeated twice in the State Finals as well.

 

The other loss was a 7-0 loss to Male in 1997.

 

Aside from Central and the previously mentioned Holy Cross, Belfry's other win was a playoff victory over Waggener. All of these games against Louisville teams have been under Haywood's tenure.

 

This marks Belfry's 22nd trip to the Semi-Finals and subsequent 22nd Regional Championship. Belfry is 13-8 in Semi-Final games entering this one. Under Coach Haywood, Belfry is making their 17th Semi-Finals appearance and have a sterling 12-4 record in that time.

 

This marks Belfry's 14th trip to the Semi-Finals the past 17 seasons.

@ATLCat, would you say that right now is the closest Belfry has been to the team they thought they'd have this year when they broke camp? I know Dixon missed a chunk of the regular season, as did Coleman and a key defender or two. The Pirates seem to have all of their puzzle pieces sliding into place at just the right time.

They are healthy finally if nothing else.

 

Last week against Ashland was the first time that the Defensive effort matched the offensive execution and we saw what they did to a solid Ashland team.

 

As long as old habits don’t reappear I think this is a fair statement.

Yeah, Meaty (#87) is as good as any defensive player in Kentucky. He could play high level college football at a bunch of positions.
