Why would you ever start a site like this? Same question...
It appears that someone stacked the deck from everywhere in the state...

Wow, a drive-by negative Trinity post on a post about the 2A final. No offense IAmAFan, but if you take T and X out of the mix your team gets beat by Male or Ballard or Manual or Henry Clay and so on.

I attended the Mercer/Russell game. Once again lack of balance was the culprit. If Russell had a better passing attack they would be celebrating their back to back titles. Learn to throw the ball. Embrace it. Love it. Its not evil. I promise.

I agree 100% with the first part.....

Part 2, I thought they were fairly balanced in Pass/Run...but not enough of options other than Clark.

Funny thing, Mercer won the game by passing the ball only one time. Is that the kind of balance that won them a championship? Truth is at the 1A and 2A level you can win a championship by being one-dimensional. There are plenty of examples of this. Now, at the 3A and 4A level, it's a totally different ball game.

^ That would never happen in 4A, rarely in 3A either.

You'll have to go back and dig up all the other threads that keep saying the same thing. It's all there if you are willing to do the reading.

BTW, that was some super team. A 3-8 squad combined with a 10-3 team. That must have been the greatest 3-8 team in history.

My apologies, I have been out of town the past week or so and haven't perviously read anything on the topic. In this day and age, any time a team goes undefeated, somehow I think that qualifies them as a super team, however it was arrived at. I think we can all agree a 3-8 team can have a good number of quality players. Harrodsburg hasn't exactly been choped liver over the years. My problem is not with Mercer County, it's with the KHSAA.

You are correct. Look at the past few 2A champions. Belfry was a run only team in 03 and 04, Russell last year, and Mercer this year.

Ditto!

And congrats to Mercer County -- we sometimes forget that adults can too frequently get in the way of boys competing for a championship -- it wasn't their fault that the merger and timing came down the way it did.

I was refering to Russell. Of course if you run the ball effectively and get the lead it usually works out. But what if Russell could pass and went ahead with a pass and a catch with a couple of minutes to go? Mercer likely would have suffered the same fate that Russell did. I don't get why people are so reluctant to throw the ball a little more.

1. Congrats to Mercer, they earned the state title in a hard fought game with a very tough opponent, defending state champ Russell

2. Congrats to Russell on an excellent defense of their title. What a run these seniors have had.

3. Mercer is on 2 campuses. However, students from both schools which merged take classes at both these campuses. It isn't like the bussed the kids from H'burg to practice.

4. I do not believe for one minute that the consolidation was for a 1 shot deal at the 2A title. Unless you know for a fact the intent of the consolidation, let it go. It is over and done with!

The bottom line is that Mercer won a title with an enrollment which was higher than anyone else in their class. It isn't the first time and it won't be the last. Move on. They are the 2A state champs!

Congratulations to Coach Jaggers and his staff for bringing these 2 teams together into one and making it work! :thumb:

There should be no astericks beside there accomplishments...Unless theres one by all the St X and Trinity championships, there shouldn't be one here....No difference

I agree you have to throw at the 3A and 4A level to be successful, but too often you just don't have the talent at the skill positions to do this consistently at the smaller schools -- you have to work with the talent you have, and sometimes you just got to know your limitations. If I'm not mistaken, I didn't see any Petrino or Ammons out on that field this afternoon.

I don't remember Ashland's 1990 State Champion team having to throw the ball very often. If you have the horses like Ashland did that year you can line up in the wishbone, and just run over top everybody.

Could you send a memo to the coaches in the Boone County school system?
