Asterisk for Mercer?

Featured Replies

I don't now about that but I do know that next year Russell will be 3A and Mercer will go to 5A but Ryle will still be in 6A with Trinity. Again who has the gripe.

I was just poking a little fun.

The bottom line here is Mercer won. Laying blame to the KHSAA for "stealing" a state title from Russell or 2A as a whole seems lame. Russell could have won today had they been sound on special teams and taken better care of the football. IMHO Russell proved that Mercer was not playing down at all. Russell has been one of the best 2A teams in the State in the last 4 years and Mercer only beat them by 3 points. Both Mercer and Russell dismantled all their opponents (except Ashland for Russell) during the regular season and throughout the playoffs. So I don't think anyone should use "Margin of Victory" as an indicator that Mercer County consolidated their way to a state title.

I said it before in the game thread, but congrats to Mercer County on rightfully winning the 2A State Championship. You made plays on special teams, you took care of the football, and you should not let the detractors take away from what you accomplished. Best of luck to you next year. I will be pulling for you.

Classy post man. I wish your Red Devils luck in the future. They play hard and nasty, just the way football is meant to be played.

It's a legitimate question, joedirt ... whether you like it or not. As far as "sad and tasteless" ... you are entitled to your opinion, regardless of how much it's colored by your bias and incredible sensitivity.

And I'm not from Russell ... so rest easy.

Yep, a little sensitive about someone wanting to lessen a State Title when the KIDS that won it haven't had time to unpack their gear yet.

Spin it all you want my man, but your true intentions shine through. Real class act.:jump:

NOTE TO WESTSIDER: Now this is what you call classy.

Gees...I can't believe what I'm seeing. I've never seen a team cry so much. I would've thought a defending state champ would handle themselves better than this. I know that not all Russell fans are crying, but some are, and it's ridiculous and actually kind of insulting. Not insulting to me because I've NEVER seen either of these teams play. So it means nothing to me personally. But to wait until after your team losses to start complaining is crazy. I have a two month old son that doesn't cry this much. I'll get some of his pacifiers and give to the Russell fans that need them. You all should get over it. I don't know anything about the game, other than the score was just a few points difference. I would imagine there are some plays in the game that if you had executed better, you would've won. Then you wouldn't have anything to complain about. But you didn't. So now it appears as though you're sore losers and looking for any excuse you can find. Like I said, I realize that not all Russel fans are crying. But the ones that are, are killing me.

An asterisk next to Mercer??? Are you serious? It's not easy to take two football teams and put them together and get team chemistry like this in such a short time. Why do you think the All Star games suck, and the USA sucks in international basketball? Too many players and not enough stats to go around. I applaud Mercer's coaching staff for being able to pull it together. I was impressed by the numbers they put up this year. I'm glad Rockcastle didn't play them.

The problem you have is that they combined the two schools? So if there had never been two schools, only Mercer Co, they would've had the same number of students/players and that would be ok? It seems that's the problem. That they combined the two and now the enrollment is uneven. I just don't see it. It looks to me like some sore losers from Russel.

Thats a pretty good point right there. I think if a different coaching staff would have been in charge, this season would have been totally different and in the other direction.

Definitely would not have won without consolidation, I think Russel has its chance to win the game, but mercer had way too much firepower.

As far as people tarnishing the hard work or Mercer Co's kids you need to think about every team that Played against Mercer this year and the Hard work that those kids have had "tarnished" due to the 5a school they had to play in the playoffs or in the finals. I mean lets wake up here, there are classification on enrollment for a reason.

By the way I wish Mercer Luck when Cov. Cath, Highlands, and everyone else come calling next year.
