What helped Mercer more than just enrollment numbers was the number of kids with varsity experience. You combine two teams that play varsity football and that is alot of kids coming together with some big games under their belt.

Don't worry Russell fans I don't think Mercer will be able to compete competitively in 5A. They will be in the ranks with 3 or 4 Northern Ky teams. I don't think I need to name them. Russell I want to give you all the praise. I know there have been a lot of distractions this year. You all have pulled together and made everyone in the state realize you are for REAL. As for coach McGlone there is not a better football coach in the state of Kentucky. This man has set the bar for all high school coaches. But his biggest accomplishment is not on the field but what he has done for each young man that has walked on the Russell field. I have the utmost admiration for this man for who he is and what he has been going through over the last few years. Coaches around the state take note if you wanna be admired and respect you need to mimick(spelling) Coach Ivan McGlone.

Russell folks...it's been a pleasure. Be proud of your gutty class kids and your tradition rich program. We were proud to have battled you guys in a game that could have gone either way. Good luck in your new district next year. I for one will be pulling for you.:thumb:

I aggree , Mercer reminded me of Ashland who is good -lot's of athletes but struggling to compete from a physical standpoint in 5a .... JC , Rock , Bell normally do in the Tomcats .. who I want to succeed ...

 

Not taking anything away from Mercer they are best team in 2a football because Mercer beat the best team in 2a football ....

Mercer is the 2A State Champion. The players played their butts off today. Nothing else needs to be said!

This has been the knock on Mercer all season. I too was guilty of this thought earlier in the year. But Mercer played the hand they were dealt. And NO, I don't think you can say that they wouldn't have won without the consolidation.

Is there any excuses listed above that I missed. How long have you been dying to say that to someone, I'd say a good while now. You've probably been scanning post just waiting for an opportunity to say that but it's OK that you picked me, I can take it. Have a field day Bud!! It doesn't change anything.
