October 17, 20196 yr 68 Gran Prix, it was 40 feet long and you could literally watch the fuel gauge go down if you stood on the gas pedal. That big Pontiac 400 sure sucked the gas down. Luckily when I was driving it, gas was under $1...of course I only made $3.50 an hour at the time.
October 17, 20196 yr I guess I've been lucky, I've never had what I considered to be a bad car. Don't care about fuel mileage if it's a vehicle I want. Had a '70 Bonneville 455 convertible. It loved gas and I loved it.
October 17, 20196 yr I have only driven Ford trucks and have had pretty good luck. My mom bought a Cadillac CTX new off the lot from Cantrell Cadillac in Lexington back around 2004. That thing was a lemon. She was constantly having issues with it. It would just die on her and nothing would work on it including the electronics. She kept having it serviced and they never could figure out the issue. She eventually sunk several thousand dollars of her own money in it trying to get it fixed. When she drove it somewhere she wouldn't turn the engine off because a lot of times it wouldn't start back. Even when getting gas she would leave it running. Finally, she have up on it and parked it in the garage where it sits today.
October 17, 20196 yr First car I ever had was a 1977 Datsun B210 hatchback. They told me to “drive easy” for the first 1000 miles or so and then get an oil change - a breaking-in process. I only put 80000 miles on it in 7 years; then the gas tank started rusting from the inside.

Maybe Tom drove a B210 also.
October 17, 20196 yr Nissan Quest mini-van. Actually it was the 3rd one we had (leased 3 years each time). It was after Nissan started partnering with the French. It had a mind of its own on electrical elements. Random windshield wiper activation was what I rememeber most. Other electric anomalies. Took the hit and traded in early for a Toyota Sienna. 2003 BMW X5 is close second. We bought it with 90,000 miles on it. As it went by 120,000 it started to get expensive. But that is expected with BMWs. They do not age well.
October 17, 20196 yr For me, it was a 2002 Saturn SL2. It had problems out the yin-yang with just about everything in the engine, and it may have been completely unrelated, but for whatever reason that thing would wear through tires within literally about half of the time it was supposed to take for them to wear down. I ended up selling it for scrap after the transmission went out when it was only at like 75,000 miles - the mechanic said the cost of replacing the transmission with a refurbished one would probably negate any value on it. We had bought a Saturn sedan around this same time. After a few years of less than stellar performance we sold it to one of our sons as is where is (with full disclosure of the problems) but he whined and moaned so much about the problems he was having with it that we bought it back just to shut him up.
October 18, 20196 yr 1982 Chevy Celebrity. Initially, I LOVED it because it was my first brand new car and had power windows! Once it hit the 4 year mark (and was paid off)), something went wrong with it on a monthly basis. It was constantly in the shop. Ironically, it was costing me more than my previous payments. Finally had a mechanic who told me that “these cars were built to self destruct” Broke my heart, but I had to cut her loose!
October 18, 20196 yr Late 1980’s model Chevette. I had a 77 Chevette hatchback stick. It was my first car, bought right out of college, after I got my first adult job. I was so proud ! It was one year old and cost me $2,800. My first big loan and I was terrified I would never pay it off. Unfortunately, I never got to assess her long term performance. My brother in law totaled it a year later. It was a very difficult time, but I managed to move on.
