Which one? I only see one sentence.

There is only one group that matters - the black players. If it bothers them to have the franchise owner referred to as owner, then change it. No big deal. Nobody else really cares in my opinion.

One other thought, the word owner is not a slave word. It was around hundreds of years before America was even discovered. If the NBA wants to stop using it, fine. But let's not make the word out to be a slave word.

No one has ever cared about the psychology of Black Americans. I wouldn’t expect anyone to care about attempts at soothing that psychology. Even if not a single person in the world is hurt by that soothing.

Honest question, and I completely respect your answer, whatever it is. Would it make you feel better as a black man in America if the term "owner" is strickened from the NBA?

Absolutely it would.

I’ll also add that they can do nothing and it won’t change anything about how I feel about the NBA. I had no idea this was a topic of discussion but I love the idea. I don’t expect it to change and I don’t care either way.

Thank you for the question and asking my feelings on the issue. I do appreciate that.

Can the word owner not be used for anything?

Gas stations?

Stores?

Restaurants?

I’m not trying to be insensitive to African Americans and I’m not even going to try to understand how they feel about these issues. As I’ve gotten older I understand more and more but still have not been in their shoes and won’t even be able to completely understand.

If that's true, it says more about people who take issue with the change than the ones asking for it.

This is a non-issue when there are a plethora of racial issues out there needing dealt with.

The problem here is with those who see this as a wrong needing to be righted.

Why is it limited to one group or ethnicity also? I had a power hungry idiot, tell me to call him boss 15 years ago. Heck, I had a guy tell me he was my landlord before.

I thought the NBA did an excellent job exiling the former racist owner in LA.

People can own objects, teams, stores, restaurants, etc for sure but for the folks out there bothered by the use of the word owner when pertaining to people that you technically own and in particular, your money makers....I get it. The use of the word owner doesn’t bother me in professional sports or any other thing that someone can claim that they own but for the folks out there it does bother...I understand that completely and it wouldn’t bother me at all to see them get their wish.

How come the importance of racial issues is always up to white people to decide? Why do black people always have zero say when it comes to trying to resolve racial issues?

This is simply more virtue signaling. Getting so sick of this because it does nothing to resolve any pressing issues whatsoever.

And it seems like whenever something like this is brought up, white people are quick to tell black people (or other minorities) things like how they should feel, that their making a big deal out of nothing, or not to worry about it because things are so much better now than they used to be.

I’ll be honest....I never thought about this being an issue. But I regularly learn about common phrases used everyday that are based in racism. It’s a reminder of how it is so deeply woven into our society. I’m not sure that’s the case with the term “owner”, but I can see why this might be bothersome. It’s ok to try to do better.

Wish I had known you years ago when King Tut, told me he was my landlord, that guy was a piece of work. If this is an issue, I don’t think it’s limited to the NBA.

Oh look... Another racial issue, another group of white men telling minorities how stupid it is or how much of a non-issue it is.

Rinse and repeat, the cycle continues.

The difference between you and others in here is that you don't take issue with what others may deem offensive.

Guess what, the bigger problems aren't being dealt with either. Because just like here, it's always "there are bigger problems to worry about."

Since you keep saying this hurts the overall progress of combating racism, can you explain how exactly?
