June 7, 20197 yr Me too everyone but the reality is too many members refuse to follow our Terms of Service in threads like this and that is a long term loser for BGP. For sure. I was impressed we have been able to make it to 100+ posts and hopefully we can all act civilized and keep it open.
June 7, 20197 yr I have a question. If we fix the naming terminology, that appears to be satisfactory for those who are most offended by the original terminology. So...once that's done, how do we fix the mindset? That appears to be the main problem to me.
June 7, 20197 yr Start it up. I’d love to know the point you are making. I wasn't trying to make a point. On virtually any topic of discussion I always try to look at both sides of the discussion. I try to look at it with an unbiased point of view as much as possible. I look for precedent to see other situations that are relevant and how they might impact the discussion. On this topic I tried to remember other situations where players and fans had altercations and the Ron Artest incident came to mind. I looked up the penalties there and posted it in this thread. More information for everyone to consider in the discussion and that was the point.

So...once that's done, how do we fix the mindset? That appears to be the main problem to me. Great question. I made a post earlier about the psychology of the Black American. In my opinion, until there is a true effort from the entire country to not just learn but to also understand the psychology of being black in America then I am not sure we’ll be able to come a true answer. A good friend of mine recently watched a movie called The Hate You Give. After he watched it he told me that he can’t imagine what it is like as a black man. Until we get to a point where everyone is like that and willing to have true discussions on reversing that psychology I am not sure what will change. I haven’t seen any change at all in my 45 years of life. Imagine the psychology of my 72 year old dad.
June 7, 20197 yr Ron Artest went into the stands and hit an innocent fan. Suspended one season. Stephen Jackson also went into the stands and hit a fan. Suspended 30 games. Both player's actions were far more severe than the Warriors fan. For more perspective, Artest was also fined 5M, Jermaine O’Neal was fined 4M and Stephen Jackson was fined 1.7M. Melee started after a fan instigated the melee by throwing a drink that hit Artest. As mentioned that fan was banned from NBA games for life. Warriors minority owner was fined 500K and banned for a year for an unprovoked assault on a player during a game. While all of the actions were horrendous and the Malice in the Palace was far more disturbing and notorious it is easy to see why some folks aren’t satisfied with the punishment of the owner. I still expect him to be forced to sell his shares but he should be banned from NBA games for life IMO.
June 15, 20197 yr If I'm an owner of an NBA franchise call me Sally I don't care I'm a billionaire. But I do think the topic in general on both sides is silly. When we become word police it is proof how prosperous our nation is though.
