Owning a franchise isn't the same as owning the people that work there. If people can't see the difference I don't what to say. Everyone working for a team from parking attendants to power forwards are being paid for their services and are free to come and go as they please.

 

No person is owned, a team, business or franchise is owned...everyone else is a well compensated employee. Comparing it to slavery in any way does a disservice to the lives and memories of actual slaves.

The NBA for YEARS hasn't referred to its collective franchise investors as "Owners". The league calls them "Governors". They collectively make up the "Board of Governors".
