Who is the most famous person you've talked to for more than 30 seconds?

Recommended Posts

Kenny Walker, Roger Bingham (Kentucky Joe Survivor), Dierks Bentley or Vanilla Ice.

By far the most engaging conversation was with Kenny. Stood next to him and talked basketball for nearly 2 hours.

Roger answered all of my Survivor questions when he made an appearance at my work location.

Dierks came into a bar in Nashville and hung out up on the balcony where we were for an hour or so. Talked and drank with everyone...maybe a dozen of us up there.

Vanilla Ice and his family stayed at the same resort as us at Disney. We seemed to be in line together for breakfast or lunch each morning. We just had casual conversation about Disney. He was very polite and held the door for my wife and daughter a couple of times.

I've got a few, mostly athletes, but some entertainers as well. My connections have come through work (I used to work in the entertainment and sporting goods industries) and through having a good friend/teammate from college who played in the Majors.

1. Paul Stanley from KISS--he was at a convention my company hosted and I was tasked with getting him around and keeping him happy. Much nicer guy than I expected...hung with him for almost a whole evening, and pretty much spoke with him all night.

2. Anthony Anderson--same situation as above.

3. Chi Chi Rodriguez--played in a Pro-Am with him. Maybe the coolest celebrity I've ever met.

MLB Players I've met and hung out with--Ron Gant, Albert Pujols, Delino Deshields, Mark Sweeney, Todd Zeile, and a bunch more I can't think of off the top of my head.

NBA--Jerry Stackhouse.

Pretty much all of the famous people I've met have been very nice. The one that stands out as being a real jerk, was Pete Rose. He was one of my heroes growing up, but meeting him totally changed my perspective on the guy.

1) Easily Coack K for me. Met assistant Coach Nate James through ex girlfriends family who hooked us up with tickets at Cameron. Got there early enough to meet and briefly talk to Coach K. Nothing really of too much substance as I was the last thing on his mind.

2) Bob Baffert I suppose. Spoke to him a few times around the Keeneland sales. Really nothing that special though as he is out and about in those type of environments pretty often.

3) Not sure if this counts but now professional gamer Ninja. He has blown up and extremely famous for streaming Fortnite but he really began playing Halo. Haven't talked to him in person but have been in multiple online Halo lobbies with him in Halo 3. I played pretty competitively and he was still an amateur at that time. He didn't really break into the pros until Halo Reach.

4) Gilles Marini. He was filming in Atlanta and staying in the same apartments as a friend. We all hung out at the pool for quite a while. Really down to earth guy.

We have two of the same ones with Kenny Walker and Bingham. Bingham used to work out at the same time I did every morning so just had casual conversations with him but never really delved deep into survivor despite me being a huge fan.

Ben Folds - Talked him into going to the Anchor Grill in Covington, KY after his show at Bogart's on his Rockin' The Suburbs tour and I bought him goetta.

Jason Isbell - I started following Isbell after listening to his Sirens Of The Ditch album when it came out back in 2007. He was mostly playing as an opening act at the time, or at best as a mid-week headliner at smaller venues. I had drinks with him and hung out on several occasions after he'd finished up his set (in his days prior to giving up the bottle, of course). I also still keep up with his former Isbell guitar player, Browan Lollar, who went on become the lead guitar man for St. Paul and The Broken Bones when that band formed in 2012.

John Mayer - Played pool with him at Fat Cat's on Short Vine in Clifton, Cincinnati after he opened for some band I was seeing at Bogart's back prior to his releasing his Room For Squares album.

Pete Rose - This sounds totally random, but it used to be a "thing" apparently in some places where a homeowner would build a small house in their back yard for aging parents to live in. The house I grew up in had one in the back yard, and when my parents bought the house, it came with a 70-something old woman living in the house, haha. Anyway, she was a LONG TIME waitress at the Coach And Four restaurant in Covington, and several of the Reds had gotten to know her over the years because they used to apparently offer some kind of prime rib deal to Reds players during the Big Red Machine era. Anyway, Pete Rose used to come visit the old waitress from time to time, and of course that means we'd all be out in the yard to see him and talk to him. I have a TON of autographed Pete Rose stuff from those days.

A few others I've talked to with some length at some point or another...Slab Murphy, Steve Cauthen, Shaun Alexander, Stephan Jenkins, Jim Bunning, Darrell Waltrip, Adam Dunn, Tom Browning, David Justice.

I work at cvg so have got to talk to a few, my favorite and most memorable. I actually escorted Muhammad Ali, his wife, daughter and little dog to the Delta crown room, can't tell you how nice they were. Others are Oscar Robertson. Tubby Smith who was very nice, as was Coach Huggins. Pet Rose also been very friendly. Johnny Bench, but her rarely has time to be bothered. That's just a few of the sports one.

Pete, The Old Left Hander, Vada Pinson, Chico Ruiz, Ken Griffey Sr., Anthony Munoz, Max Montoya, Ricky P., Dr. Thomas Clark (UK), Ricky Skaggs, that's all I can remember at the moment. My daughter went to UofL and would dress up as a Southern Belle type person and greet visitors for the Kentucky Derby. I believe she did that her sophomore, junior and senior year. Her list would be outstanding.
