Who is the most famous person you've talked to for more than 30 seconds?

Kentucky Congressman Larry Hopkins - A funny story about that. It was 1985 and I was stationed on the USS Baltimore and we were in Holy Loch Scotland. Congressman Hopkins was at the Naval Base for some reason and he toured the Baltimore. He wanted to meet the crew members that were from Kentucky (there were 3 of us), so we actually had lunch with him in the wardroom. After the meal and pictures he got phone numbers for our families and said he would call went he got back to the states.

Mom knew I been to Scotland because I had called home while I was there, but she had no idea about the meeting. One day soon the Congressman's Secretary calls Mom and asks her to hold because Congressman Hopkins would like to speak with her. Mom thought it was somebody playing a joke on her and was ready to give him an ear full when he came on the phone. He answers the phone and says "The is Larry Hopkins and I was just with your son in Scotland." Mom was like, oh crap, wait a minute, this man knows what he's talking about. I was pretty funny, and I would have loved to seen the look on Mom's face.

Congressman Hopkins got Mom and Dad's home address and sent them a copy of the picture that was taken in Scotland. Somehow it ended up on the front paper of the Edmonson County News with the headline "Local Boy meets Congressman on Submarine in Scotland"

Could not agree more on Bench. Chose not to even include him because of that.

Johnny Bench is the perfect example of "never meet your idols". Dude is the worst.

Bob Lilly, Chris Collinsworth, Gerald McRaney, Jack Blades and Ted Nugent.

All were really nice guys to talk to, Bob Lilly was by far the nicest and most down to earth guy I've ever met that's a celebrity. The man talked to me for better than 45 minutes!

Nugent was funny, but a bit nuts! :lol2:

Denzel Washington...met him and hung out a bit in LA while our sons were playing AAU basketball. Great guy.

Cawood Ledford. Me and a co-worker got a one day job through his girlfriend. She was going to U.K. majoring in broadcasting . It was with Jefferson Pilot at the Uk vs.Tenn. football game. This was the Couch and Manning game. We arrived early and they had a small breakfast buffet for everyone. We`re eating and Cawood walks up and asks if he can sit with us. What an honor. Super nice man. Our jobs were in each end zone keeping people from blocking a camera. It looked like Peyton was throwing me a pass. His girlfriend was pulling cables around in the mud somewhere. I received check from them for 40 dollars . What a day!!!

Bob Huggins- he was very down to earth.

Shaun Alexander when I was in high school and he came to speak in NKY.

Terry Bradshaw- 100% jerk.

Used to see Vontaze Burfict a lot at a golf course in NKY. As crazy as it sounds he was a really nice guy who was always cordial and never told a kid no when they asked for an autograph or a picture.

Chris Jericho was a real nice guy.

When I worked at GABP I met a lot of Reds players. Griffey was as polite and fun as anyone. Believe it or not, Barry Larkin was not very friendly. He wasn't a jerk, but did not seem to like interacting with the lowly people at the ballpark

Rick Pitino and Chris Mack.

In one year you've already had a chance to meet and actually talk to Chris Mack for a while -- that is very cool.

Twice now. I’ve got great friends. :lol2:

Cris Collinsworth.....Lives in Ft Thomas and his Wife's family and my Wife's family are long time Friends. Cris is a good Dude!

Merril Hoge.....Coached alongside him for Two season in the FTJFL. He is also a friend. You have to get to know Merril before you judge.

Solomon Wilcots....Good friend of Hoge's. What a great guy...

Jared Lorenzen......My Guy! Just was a very close Buddy! Gosh I miss him already....

Terry Bradshaw- 100% jerk.

So you’re a Bengals fan... :lol2:

To add.... In what should be a shock to absolutely no one, Mack is much more down to earth.

Hoge sat down beside me at the state football finals a few years ago (the year Highlands lost to Collins). Seemed nice enough, but was oddly turned. I'm glad you threw that last bit in there - helps explain my afternoon with him a little better.

Merril is a good dude. Knows his stuff about Football and Concussions. The one he took in Chicago that ended his Career was about as bad as it gets. He talks about it a lot about being rushed back too soon. It was a life changer for him for sure! He has overcome some substantial adversity throughout his life. He was almost killed as a boy on their Farm in Idaho. His hand was caught in a Farm Implement. And then his battle with Cancer. It's funny because his position coach in College at Idaho State was the one and only Marvin Lewis. LOL! Merril still resides in Ft Thomas even though his son Beau is at BYU. Merril has been in Ft Thomas for over 20 years.
