Wait were you not there for the Trinity-Male game 2002?

 

Nope. I was still in high school but didn't attend that game.

Watching a Many St.X/Trinity games through grade school. Getting free tickets to UofL games during the 80's because no one would pay to watch them. Watching My kids youth league football championship game there when he was 8 and about 15degrees outside. Non-football but seen Ozzy and Metalica in concert in 84 and numerous free concerts at the fair and my all-time favorite thing of going to the Redbird games in the mid 80's. They really had some good teams back then.

I wouldn't call getting beat to finish 14-1 a favorite memory, but playing in a title game is something you don't forget.

Saw many St. X games from the stands... I was in 3rd grade when St. X beat Henry Clay, 5th grade when St. x won 3-0 over Trinity on that freezing night, and 7th grade when I saw my brother and St. X beat Eric Shelton and Bryan Station in overtime. But for me to actually be on that “field” it was 2004 when we practiced there two getting ready for the state championship game against Scott Co. because it had rained all day Monday and Tuesday. Those two practices were really special, maybe it was because I was a senior or because I was playing in a field where I’ve seen so many other St. X teams play.

 

It will be strange when I come up to visit and not seeing Cardinal Stadium there anymore.

1984 When Christian County won the 4A state title and became the first team to win 2 4A titles outside Louisville. Still true today which is now 6A.

Some of my earliest memories are of the Flaget - St. X games on Sunday afternoons. To me as a kid, it was just a great spectacle. I also remember the road circling the stadium on the Fairgrounds premises which was transformed into the "Circle of Death" when the crowd was exiting. I remember Howard Stevens and Walter Peacock, two diminutive RB's, terrorizing defenses.

59-56 Trinity over Male.

Playing in 3 straight title games in 79, 80, and 81-especially 79 as we won 7-0 over Richmond Madison. I had 2 carries for 30 on the winning drive. And the field was like concrete. I played for Bellevue Tigers. Also seeing The Rolling Stones there.

Watching Johnny Unitas and the newly crowned champion Colts play an exhibition game with my Dad; Trinity Rocks winning their FIRST State Football Championship my senior year in 1968; Louisville Colonels baseball; Trinity v X games; and, of course, the unbelievable Trinity v Male 59 to 56 championship game.

All of the state titles we as in the Beechwood Tigers won. My favorite memory was 1994 my senior year when we beat Murray in the craziest finish evervin the finals to become the first team in the state of Ky to ever win 4 Straight State Titles.

Do you remember the years of the Louisville Colonels? Kinda a shame Louisville used to have an MLB team and an ABA (Merged with NBA years later) only for them to fold. The big money families in Louisville (Binghams, Brown's, Cherry, Jones, etc.) backed the arts rather than sports teams. While I am happy for Louisville's Fine Arts scene, the Fine Arts just don't compare to major sports teams.

I remember when the Louisville Colonels were affiliated with the Milwaukee Braves until 1962 [Lee May and Tommie Aaron (Hank's brother)] and when they affiliated with the Boston Red Sox in 1968. I also saw the Kentucky Colonels win their ABA Championship in Freedom Hall.

I've always thought that Louisville's inability to keep pace with the growth of other big cities in the region had as much to do with why we could never keep teams than anything else. Although heaven knows why major league baseball never returned after it left in 1899. Maybe there just wasn't much energy for expansion when Louisville was contracted out of the National League. Baltimore and Washington ended up in the American League but nobody ever made a move for Louisville. I honestly wish I knew why that was.

When we knocked off a very good Bellevue team in the 1981 Class A State finals and then repeated the following year when we blew away Cumberland to win the state title going undefeated both seasons. We, meaning the Paris Greyhounds! :ylsuper:

 

1997 State Championship game that saw Bourbon County take down Owensboro Catholic to win the 2A State title on a snowy day at Cardinal Stadium.

 

River City Football Classic between Kentucky State and Central State and the battle of both program's band. Now, those games had Cardinal Stadium rocking!

 

And last but not list, the epic 59-56 battle between Male and Trinity ... now that was a game for the ages! :eek:

I was on the losing side in 81-we had 7 turnovers in the 1st half-and couldn’t finish our drives in the 2nd half-but it was you(Paris) who were a very formidable opponent and did the things to win. Congrats!
