Once Alabama's Offense got off their "script" They were very ordinary last night. One can help but wonder how much of Lockley's mental preparation was spent on his new job....

With that said, how has noone plucked Clemson's OC or DC as a head coach? I know Venerables makes over 2 million at Clemson...has he stated that he doesn't want a head job? He made some key calls to stop Bama in their tracks.

I can't see any way Venables leaves Clemson as long as Dabo is there. He makes great money as a DC only worrying about one unit. Why go somewhere to take an HC job for more money, sure, but 10x the responsibility. He may be an HC one day, but I can see him being the top DC for a career if he's paid well enough.

Idk about deer in the headlights, but there was definitely a time or two that I thought he looked like he knew Clemson was much better and there wasn't anything he could do about it.

What was the number they said about the staffs last night, Saban has had 20 coaches move on to better jobs over the last 5 years while Clemson has only lost 3?

Bama is on their 5th OC in 4 years.

 

It's amazing that none of Dabo's staff has been hired away and that Saban keeps on winning regardless, of who his coordinators and coaches are.

Many programs have tried to lure the DC away. However, he has turned down every offer. He's the highest (or 2nd highest) assistant coach in the nation, making more than a lot of head coaches. He's got a pretty sweet situation, so really no need to add additional stress of running an entire program.

I hear what you're saying and agree to an extent, but jumping into the NFL at 18/19 is way different than jumping into any other professional sport. Early indications are that Lawrence will be a very good NFL QB, but why not fully prepare for a few years before being thrown to the wolves?

I was making more of a statement as to how millions will be made off of Lawrence, but Lawrence sees next to nothing for his talents and supreme talent.

This Clemson team may (or may not) be an all-time great team, but that certainly was one of the all-time great single-game performances. They were more physical, more prepared, and more efficient in all 3 phases, than the team that has won 5 titles in the last decade. Quite a team performance.

To me, Clemson is one of the best TEAMS we have seen in a while. From the top down, they seem really care about each other and the program!!

 

No one after the game was pulling the look at me stuff...players were giving Coaches props and recruiting for the program on air. As the camera was panning around after the game, it seemed like there were lots of former players on the field hugging and celebrating.

 

The culture that Dabo has created is second to none in big time College Athletics. Saban's culture is all business, Dabo's seems to have a lot or genuine love built in.

I'm not sure he could of called a worse game in the second half, especially in the redzone. They were absolutely gashing Clemson on the ground and the two key possessions (fake FG and the next one), they get in the redzone, have 3rd and short knowing it's two downs to get the first and they don't run it.

I agree. Bama runs a lot of RPO stuff. It may have been the OC was calling run plays and Tua was pulling and throwing. Clemson is the only school in the country that can play as much Man to Man with Success against Bama. Clemson made some great calls (Corner Blitz) (Coverage switch ups on the 2nd INT) in crucial moments that kept Tua off balance.

Reason #1 I love college football bowl season: hyperbolic blanket statements about the rise or demise of teams and/or conferences because of a singular game.

Penalties and the turnovers really killed Bama. If you just looked at the stats you would think it was a close game. I'm ready for them to run it back next year.

Alabama was clearly outcoached and I thought it was a telling moment when they interviewed Saban going into the half that he admitted that Clemson was taking advantage of some things that other teams had had success against them earlier in the season and Saban admitted that they had not prepared/practiced for! That is clear preparation, one that did their homework and one that didn't.

 

I had Clemson winning by 7-10 but never thought it would be the blowout it turned out to be and could have been a lot worse had Dexter Lawrence played.
