Brohm - Woodson Debate

Featured Replies

I don't know...I think you also need to take in the season as a whole, Brian's recovery from a second surgery, his big wins vs Miami and WVU...a brand new unit under center. I think Brian's season speaks for itself. Andre's is nice though.

You said..."Playing Woodsons season"? I dont understand what your point is...

So? What does that say? Andre is better you are right....if only there were some more MSU's, Vandy's, and 2 D-1AA's this year.

Strength of Schedule?

Against his weakest 5 opponents, he had 17 TD and 3 INT. He completed 66% of his passes for an average of 298. That was 9.6 yds per attempt.

Against his best 5 opponents he's had 7 TD and 4 INT. He completed 56% of his passes for an average of 217. That was 6.7 yds per attempt.

This was what I was trying to get to.

Right, but then you have a team like WVU where they droppes 8 people when U of L got into the redzone....it's hard to pass through that if you are Peyton himself.

But if he is one of the best then he should be able to make adjustments and complete passes true? He may look comfy in the pocket but look at the Rutgers game he was dancing like Jerry Springer in the pocket. Only a few times did he stay in there and attempt to make good throws. Instead he wanted to dance. One thing about Woodson is he has taken some sacks instead of making bad throws.

Only 1 AA team, Texas St. LA-Monroe is 1A, in the Sunbelt Conference.

Performance against schedule...how has Andre fared against Top teams?

Define "Top"

Here you go:

In looking at D1 Passing (yardage) Defensive rankings we find this:

Brohms Opponents - UK (119), UC (55), Temple (93), Miami (42), SYR (90), WV (78), Rutgers (2). Average of 68.4 ranking.

Woodson's Opponents - UL (72), CM (85), UF (74), Miss (56), UGA (14), LSU (13), SC (31), MSU (83), & Vandy (51, 16 prior to UK). Average of 53.2 ranking.

Comparably ranked opponents of each: for Brohm, #55 UC, Woodson #56 Ole Miss.

Brohm vs/ UC: 20/37 (54%), 324 yd., 1 TD, 1 INT

Woodson vs/ Ole Miss: 22/34 (65%), 293 yd., 3 TD, 0INT

Versus Top 5 Defensive Opponents (Pass yardage):

Brohm: 80/129 (62%) - 1225 yds - 5 TD - 2 INT

Woodson: 106/176 (60%) - 1387 yds - 10 TD - 4 INT

IMO, safe to say we have 2 pretty good QB's. Woodson's numbers stack up pretty good w/ Brohm's.

Vandy was Ranked in the Top 20 in pass defense when UK played them. UL has only played one team in the Top 20 (pass defense) and that was Rutgers. UK's played 4.

How can you compare numbers with a straight face when you have to acknowledge that Brohm's TD numbers are suppressed by a superior running game and consider Brohm's midseason surgery on his throwing hand thumb?

You certainly shouldn't bring out stats from the Cincy game, Boucher. This is an excellent example of a case where statistics just won't tell the story.

Woodson is a good QB. Top 20 in D-IA, and he'll make a pro roster for at least a year or two, maybe more if he continues to develop.

The NFL is the top meritocracy in all of sports. Nowhere else does the cream rise as fast or as reliably. Does anyone anticipate Woodson leaving for the draft this season?

UK was ranked in the top 20 in pass defense when Louisville played them, too...:D
Brian Brohm is one of the top 2-3 QB's in the college ranks...bar none.

Dont leave your day job, you wont last a day as a NFL scout. Brohm at this time is not even close. You obviously missed him the other night in the 2nd half of the Ru game. He has not yet lived up to his billing but I still hold out hope he will. His numbers are no better than Woodson's at this point, stats dont lie. Good thing he is playing against the BE rather than SEC, he is to fragile at this point to withstand SEC play every week where as in the BE he only has a game or 2 where he is facing that kind of play.

Anyone who doesn't think Woodson is as good as Brohm at this point is drinking too much UL Kool-Aid, Woodson has had a huge year, another one like this next year with 8 or 9 wins and he will be a 1-2nd round Draft pick. Brohm has more potential in my opinion, but its potential, he hasn't really done a whole lot to maximize it

Some people have blinders on when it comes to certain things...I, too, hope Brohm ends up living up to his billing, but, IMO, he hasn't yet..I would have thought this conversation silly myself at the 1st of the year, but, I think it's a legit question now...

Woodson will return. He has improved and another year would only help him improve his stock.

A 25 Td, 5 int 8-4 next Season would put him in the first round IMO
