I also feel it must also be noted the role of YAC for UK receivers.

 

UK is a very screen oriented offense, if you don't believe me then watch the Vanderbilt game again. The YAC from Burton and Little on screen passes definately has to be put into account. Without the playmaking ability of UK's receivers in the open field then there would be a drastic difference in stats. ALSO, due to the high completion percentage that UK can see by throwing these screens it allows Woodson's completion percentage to get a nice little boost as well as reducing the chance of interception.

 

As a diehard Cat fan it thrills me to see Andre's maturation and the season he is having... but mechanically speaking there is no comparison between Brohm and Woodson..Brohm is a solid QB that is more heady, takes more chances that usually pay off, and can manage a game better. Louisville on the season have nearly a 50/50 split of runs to passes... that is very tough to achieve nowadays.

 

Against Rutgers Brohm looked absolutely lost for 3/4 of the game..the majority of his production came off of two drives.. and although you can pin some mistakes on him such as the overthrows or throwing behind the receiver... far and large I felt that it was more of a fact that Petrino simply got outoached. He even admitted to seeing blitzing schemes they had not prepared for. There should be more credit to Brohm being shut down to the Rutger's defense than anything else IMO... you throw Andre Woodson in that same situation and he also would have looked lost.

Check-offs are not infinite. Even though when a QB has the ability to check offit doesn't necessarily mean he has total control of the situation. If Brohm had never been addressed as to what his proper progressions were according to the varied blitz package beforehand by his coach, how can he know the proper check off to run? If this was in fact as Coach Petrino said "Blitz packages they had not seen".. then obviously Brohm could not know what to check to.

 

Every college offense uses screens... UK's and Louisville's are night and day. The screen in UK's offense is used much more as a primary option (as well it should be in a blitz happy SEC) whereas in Louisville's offense it is typically a progression or specifically designed when a blitz is addressed.... sort of ironic... UL didn't use very many screens against Rutger's and their blitzing defense.

They all said that they couldn't hear a thing, that's why they went to the silent count, which also gave Rutgers a distinct advantage as well.

Guys I think we should all be rational enough to say that this is not a cut and dry issue. Both sides have their points. The fact is both QBs have a decent chance at playing in the NFL and both have led their teams to bowl eligibility. All is well with football in the bluegrass.

If you are neither, then its possible to disagree. There is no "definately better" player as some have mentioned.

I think a lot will have to do with their performances at UT here in a couple of week. If both come out and lay and egg, then no chance. If both are able to rise to the occassion, then it is a possibility. Actually, it probably depends on if the o-line, et al. can elevate their game enough against UT.
