November 16, 200619 yr I agree that Brohm was much more polished than Woodson. Andre was a raw talent. However, their play on the field, against the competition they have played against this season, Woodson has been better this year. I know there are other reasons and pointed them out earlier, but if you would have told me before the season that I would even be considering this argument, I would have laughed. But this season, Woodson has been better. There are no other facts to argue any other way. Now to which one will be a better pro QB, I still think Brohm leads that category. But as you have said, the gap has narrowed. I agree...But I think the point is one good season does not make you the better QB.
November 16, 200619 yr But this season, Woodson has been better. There are no other facts to argue any other way. Now to which one will be a better pro QB, I still think Brohm leads that category. But as you have said, the gap has narrowed. I dont think its such a stretch to say that Woodson has played just as good if not better than Brohm this year. Woodson has atleast been one of the top 15 QBs in the nation if not better than that.Woodson is having a great year leading a passing attack that's had the ground game sputter. Brohm has struggled with an injury that required midseason surgery and is playing with a pretty good running game. Although UK's running game has been better since their bye weeek and Louisville's running game had a horrible outing as a unit against Rutgers, Louisville's rushing attack is better. If you just want to look at statistics, Woodson is roughly 3.7 billion times better than Brohm. But just like that fake statistic I threw out there, those statistics don't reflect the reality of who's the better quarterback because of the facts that surround those statistics. Facts we can all agree on, like 'Brohm had his ligaments in his throwning hand destroyed and came back too early to try and be ready for the WVU game' and 'Louisville is 13th in DI-A in rushing with 192.11 yds and 3 TDs per game on 5.1 yds per carry, while UK is 103rd with 95.60 yds and 1 TD per game on 3.06 yds per carry.' I don't point those stats out to flame. I point them out because they're pertinent.

Everyone knows that UK hasn't run the ball well most of the season and that they would be throwing, making Woodson's numbers even more impressive? :sssh:

If it isn't, do you see the defense dropping eight into every pattern when you watch UK games?
November 16, 200619 yr How about summing it up like this: Brohm was the higher ranked QB coming out of high school, and is definately more polished than Woodson. Woodson has shown more improvement so far than Brohm, and has had the better statistical season than Brohm. Both are quality QB's for their respective teams, and have bright futures. What I don't understand is the some of the same people who ALWAYS use statistics to back up their argument, now are dismissing statistics, and refuse to give Woodson the nod STATISTICALLY this season. The hipocrisy really makes it hard for me to even read some of their posts. While I am a UK fan, I believe that Brohm is the better College QB, and would start over Woodson if at UK, or if Woodson was at UL. If I was a UL fan, I would be honest enough to admit that Woodson has had the better season. I don't understand what is so difficult about that. Ultimately, good QB's are judged by winning, and obviously Brohm's got the upper hand on Woodson in that category.
November 16, 200619 yr Its interesting, Brohm hasnt had to rely solely on his arm like Woodson has. This year its either been Woodson, go and complete a lot of passes and play well or we will be 3 and out every posession. UL's running game has made Brohm's life at QB pretty easy this year.
November 16, 200619 yr I agree...But I think the point is one good season does not make you the better QB. My points were made about this season. I also stated that right now, I believe that Brohm would be the better pro QB, but that the gap had narrowed. Brohm having a very good season last year doesn't make him the better QB either does it?

No one is arguing that. I would argue as to how much those statistics mean. In this case, not as much because all things are not equal, between Brohm's injuries and the TD production of Louisville's running game. But your final clause makes no sense to your argument- even with fewer attempts, Brohm has had as many wins as Woodson and a quarter of the losses. Isn't that a better season per your admitted ultimate standard?

Isn't that a better season per your admitted ultimate standard? Winning is the ultimate measure of success. But the only way winning is a good argument is if you say that UK's supporting cast is up to par with UL's supporting cast. We obviously know thats not true. Or to say UL plays as tough of a schedule. UL has more cupcakes on the schedule than UK does.
November 16, 200619 yr Please tell me this is a joke. If it isn't, do you see the defense dropping eight into every pattern when you watch UK games? It's not a joke and I cannot believe you are not seeing my point. A solid running game always helps a QB by keeping the defense off balance. You can gear your defense towards defending the pass on most downs (focusing on pass coverage and pass blitzes, etc). It is not all about dropping 8 men into coverage. Otherwise, every team UK played when Couch was there would have done that, and they most certainly did not. It should be much easier to defend a one dimensional team then a more balanced attack like UL has this season. Why doesn't every NFL team drop 8 into coverage on Manning on nearly every play? And we can both agree that he is much better than Brohm or Woodson can't we?
November 16, 200619 yr If I was a UL fan, I would be honest enough to admit that Woodson has had the better season. I don't understand what is so difficult about that. You act like nobody is giving Woodson any credit.... IMO, the bottom line in this whole debate is that Woodson is having a great year, and Brohm isn't...This is BY FAR Woodson's best year as a QB for UK, and that deserves some recognition.
November 16, 200619 yr Winning is the ultimate measure of success. But the only way winning is a good argument is if you say that UK's supporting cast is up to par with UL's supporting cast. We obviously know thats not true. Or to say UL plays as tough of a schedule. UL has more cupcakes on the schedule than UK does. Fact: Louisville and Kentucky have played a comparable schedule. So comparable, that they're statistically even (4 spots difference on CBS.Sportsline.) Fact: U of L's rating for SOS is much higher than UK's (at least 10 spots in any rating, as much as 20.) So much higher that if you flipped the points, Louisville would not only be ahead of UK in SOS, they'd be much further ahead.
November 16, 200619 yr If you asked me 3 months ago, I would say Brohm hands down. But considering (and I'll probably get slammed for saying this) Brohm is playing with a better supporting cast. I think Woodson's numbers would be HUGE if he played at Louisville. If I read the earlier posts correctly, Brohm has 6td/4int? Really? I just assumed he had more. Let's face it, the schedule hasn't been the toughest. I realize niether has UK's. But the number's aren't even close. Yeah, Brohm missed 2 games. But unless he was going to throw like 15 tds in those two games, that's a weak argument. I would've expected his production to go up since Bush got injured.
November 16, 200619 yr I would've expected his production to go up since Bush got injured. But the problem with that idea is that just because Bush went down, doesn't mean UL has stopped running the ball like they used to....They just use three running backs instead of one.
