Should the 1A trophy be mailed to Beechwood?

Featured Replies

I started the same thread last year. Beechwood pretty much ran away with it in 2017. The favorite from the east last year lost its big running back in game three of the season making the east side wide open to many. The 2018 season will open somewhat the same way with the favorite top two teams in the east Pikeville and Raceland looking to stay healthy and punch themselves a ticket to Kroger Field. The west has possibly two challengers in the likes of Campbellsville and Crittenden County. So can anyone challenge Beechwood or will they complete a 3-peat before jumping to 2A?

Go ahead and mail the trophy to Ft. Mitchell now.

If they come out of the Corbin and Cov Cath games without any serious injuries, the title is theirs again, The Simon Kenton games is another to watch to see how they come out as far as injuries go.

Beechwood will beat Simon Kenton this year...Mark it down..

Go ahead and ship it overnight

The rest of 1A has a lot of ground to make up, but I want to see a decent sample size from Pikeville and Raceland first, before I ship the trophy to Fort Mitchell.

I thought Pikeville would have matched up better with Beechwood last year than did Raceland. It will be interesting to see if Raceland has improved and if Pikeville, which was so young last year, can take the next step in 2018.

I do think Beechwood is without a doubt the favorite, but I also remember Mayfield routing Williamsburg in 2013 before needing a missed extra point in overtime to beat the same Yellowjackets the next season. So you just never know.

I didn't think they mailed the trophy. Any time I've seen the state finals, the trophy is already there and they get it after the game. Is that wrong?

Seriously though, I don't know if I crown them just yet. Maybe not mail it today, but go ahead and put it in the box and put an address label on it, and tape it up.

Right now the gap between Beechwood and the field is wide

With that said, every game Pikeville plays they will improve just like last year.

Will Pikeville be able to catch Beechwood this year? That remains to be seen... but the investment and risk that Macnamee took last year to play underclassmen, particularly Sophomores, should pay dividends in the long run if they stay healthy.

If I recall there was a similar thought process a couple years ago about mailing the trophy to Beechwood and then Daric Pugh and Blake Charles had a field day in the Finals when it was said and done.

I tend to agree about a hypothetical Beechwood/Pikeville matchup last year. I think the Panthers take a huge step forward in 2018.

Only time will tell, but I think Raceland has significantly upgraded its big play ability in the passing game. That's the one thing that was really missing from their offense a year ago. They could look much more athletic this year.

I believe the only other time that thought process has been brought up (by the same poster) was last year. In 2015 Beechwood went into the season as a lukewarm favorite as they had a lot of holes to fill.

How about Amazon two hour delivery to Fort Mitchell.
