I think it will either be Brian Kirk or Willie Feldhaus. Both are PE teachers, and Mason County will have an open PE teacher position next year.

 

I can say that it’s definitely not Willie Feldhaus.

I think the Mason Co people are now realizing this job isn't what it once was. At one point a top 5 job in the State. Mason had a great run of talent. I think the committee and school thought they could hire most anyone they wanted. Don't think that's the case anymore.

 

I agree but not sure you will get Mason fans to agree with us.

There's a big difference in learning from history and living in the past... although I've been accused of the latter and at times I would agree with you... but not on this.

 

In '97, Mason had lost in the district to St. Pat. Gloom & doom all around. All programs, even one as good as Mason's, are somewhat cyclical.

 

But, more than guilty of living in the past.... I have a large Mason County bias. I loved my 19 years as a Royal. Great town to raise my family. The AD, Chris Ullery, is a very good friend. The Principal, Seth Faulkner, was a freshman my first season at Mason. The head football coach, Jonathan Thomas, is a classmate of Seth's. I am crazy about those guys.

 

So, yes, I am guilty for sure of being very pro Mason County. But, because I know them, their character, etc. .... all those things make the job more attractive.

Coach, I was fortunate enough to play for you and work for Kelly Wells in high school. I learned a lot of lessons that I am trying to pass along to Mason County softball girls! The reach of a good mentor goes beyond the sport that they coach!

It's been down for a bit-- but if you don't think MCHS is a top tier KY job, you don't know Kentucky Hoops.

 

The right person and hire will bring them back to where this is not a doubt.

Then he can not be considered. We do have enough kids to be one sport or another. we have several that play both. The starting QB will probably be a starter on the basketball team.

This program will take 10+ years to build back up. I don’t see any coach having instant success. This is one of the biggest hires Mason County Basketball has made in their history. Either take a step forward, or take two steps back.

Well I have heard that Mason is very good in the next 2 years.

 

True or not their tradition will carry them some.

I heard it’s Brian Kirk’s if he wants it.

 

Pros:

-Mason County tradition, one of the best jobs in the state

-Lives across from school, wife works there, kids go there

-Presumed more money with this job

 

Cons:

-Augusta has a good group of kids coming up

-Mason County doesn’t have much talent from what I know

-Inhereits A LOT of problems

-leaving a very secure job

-Leaving your Alma mater

Almost all of Mason's problems left with last year's team. Let's hope we don't go through that again.

New year potentially comes with new problems. The hire needs to be RIGHT to keep that trend in the rear view mirror. They must and I am hopeful that they(hiring committee) get it right this time!
