School district firing teachers to bring in coaches, and no one is batting an eye about it.

From what I’ve heard, he was getting a pink slip either way. Wasn’t meeting expectations in the classroom.

Right, they havent hired the coaches, yet.

None of it happened. The high school lost a teaching position due to enrollment and funding cuts. They had two PE teachers and cut one PE position. Happens all the time. Wouldn't you think if they wanted to open up for coaches, they would cut other positions? You are claiming or alluding to things that just are not true.

I don't know the situation on assistant coaches but one would assume that the individuals got pink slipped from coaching. That would be standard wouldn't it and let the new coach pick his assistant coaches. Pink slipped from coaching wouldnt mean pink slipped from teaching as well if they are teachers, I am sure all of their assistant coaches weren't teachers.

Hearing that the top 3 candidates are:

Brian Kirk - Augusta

Steve Wright - South Laurel->Southwestern->Assitant at Transylvania

Brad Sizemore - North Laurel

Mason County pink slipped a PE teacher that was on Mason County’s staff. Kirk and Wright are both PE teachers. Sizemore is PE and Special Ed teacher.

I'm pretty sure Steve Wright has already retired from teaching.

Uhhh yes it did.

They pink slipped all coaches next day after Biggs resigned whether or not they taught for new staff...ones that happened to be teachers were just out of luck...and that's not speculation.

It is standard that all assistant coaches get let go from the staff whenever there is a new coach, it's up to the new coach to bring them back. It is not standard to fire an assistant coach from their teaching position. And I truly, truly hope Mason County did not fire a PE Teacher to make room for a new coach, or I will lose what respect I had left for them.

Nothing would surprise me from that school system. I hope it has gotten better since the Tim Moore days.

More to it than that, but it had nothing to do with ability to teach and coach I can promise you that. Loyalty to the head coach despite maybe having contradictory beliefs' sometimes is a death sentence to an assistant.

I personally hope they hire Kirk or Hinson. Then it would speak volumes about how the status of the Mason program has changed over the years if they actually brought in someone from Augusta or Bracken to fix their mess and would be great. The fact that times have changed enough that they are even considering it tells me something.

Where have you been? When was the last time someone was offered the Mason County job and actually had to think about it? And I have talked to Hinson, and he has always told me he wants Bracken County to be the place he spends the rest of his coaching career. He went to school there and his kids go there. Like I said with Kirk I will say about Hinson. It’s hard getting a coach to leave their Alma mater.

Brian Kirk would run down 8 for the job.

If he takes off down Ky 8, he is going to end up closer to St. Pat than Mason County.
