I’ve never heard of a school that releases a list of applicants. That is just purely unethical.

Old Hammer is going to be around Maysville a lot, he was the guest this morning on Sports Talk and has a camp coming up as well.

I have laughed at the back and forth and speculation on this thread. One thing for certain, Mason County is not chasing a coach in this process.

I think the Mason Co people are now realizing this job isn't what it once was. At one point a top 5 job in the State. Mason had a great run of talent. I think the committee and school thought they could hire most anyone they wanted. Don't think that's the case anymore.

I had a prospective assistant football coach on campus at Mason County, spring of 1997. We meet a young coach interviewing for the Royals head basketball position. When the young coach walks off, the guy I am interviewing says.... "he is too young. They will eat him alive here".

 

That young coach..... Kelly Wells. Won a state title a few years later leading the Royals.

There's a big difference in learning from history and living in the past... although I've been accused of the latter and at times I would agree with you... but not on this.

 

In '97, Mason had lost in the district to St. Pat. Gloom & doom all around. All programs, even one as good as Mason's, are somewhat cyclical.

 

But, more than guilty of living in the past.... I have a large Mason County bias. I loved my 19 years as a Royal. Great town to raise my family. The AD, Chris Ullery, is a very good friend. The Principal, Seth Faulkner, was a freshman my first season at Mason. The head football coach, Jonathan Thomas, is a classmate of Seth's. I am crazy about those guys.

 

So, yes, I am guilty for sure of being very pro Mason County. But, because I know them, their character, etc. .... all those things make the job more attractive.

Chris Ullery will hire the best possible basketball coach for the Royals. Somebody is going to get a great job with an even better boss.
