We can revisit this in a year. But it’s always funny that Kentucky people immediately dismiss Kentucky kids as “not as good as the other commits”. Dontaie is as good or better than any other wing that’s committed to Kentucky.

When I see Allen, I am always reminded of Darius Miller (and in no way Terrance Jones). Now hear me out. For obvious reasons, they are both great athletes, in the 10th Region, near the river, but there is so much more. I agree that speed is the biggest draw back, but that was the case with Darius. As with Darius, Allen posses great length, and can shoot the ball with the best. He is not as physical as Darius at this point in their careers, but still has a knack for scoring around the rim when you take away the 3. What impresses me more than his scoring, is the way he does the other things- passing, rebounding, involving teammates- much like Darius. Now Darius had better support players, but still very similar. The rankings of players are terrible, but the best barometer we have to judge high school seniors. Even if Allen is not one of the best 50 players in America (and I think he is), I still think UK would be foolish to let this one get away. I think ultimately Allen would be as valuable to UK as Darius was, that is, I don't think UK wins the 2012 title with out him on the team. I am sure many of you agree with that comment, but that is where I see Allen fitting in. He is actually more "smooth as a player, where Darius was almost robotic in his movements. Not as a one and done (not saying he couldn't, but highly unlikely), but as a valuable contributor to the program. Whether he goes there or not, I do think he will have one hell of a college career, and actually may benefit more from going somewhere else (Shelvin Mack, Tavion Hollingsworth, Chris Lofton, etc.). And for us to compare him again to Darius, he better have a great college career Darius set the bar high. Regardless, it will be fun to watch him play this season, unless you are one of those coaches or players trying to stop him from adding to his high light reel against your team.

I won't argue with anything you said but I am curious why you think Allen is a top 50 player.

I am just going what I heard was released in the latest player rankings. I can't even tell which one or if that is correct. Either way, he is special, and I do agree that kids from Kentucky often go overlooked.

Rivals has him as 47 overall. ESPN and 247 haven’t updated their rankings yet.

If Dontaie was going to be one and done then he’d already have gotten that UK offer and Coach K and Bill Self would have had a home cooked meal at his house by now.

 

I’ve been screaming from the mountaintops about the talent KY has but I also try to be realistic about it as well. He doesn’t have to have one and done status to make me proud of him wherever he ends up playing. He’s shown that KY kids can play the game and if KyKy Tandy is correct then Dontaie will become a Wildcat by the end of the week and we should all be happy for him. We don’t need to add more pressure and expectations to him. Let’s just be happy for him.

He didn't have an overwhelming college career, but at the H.S. level I think their games are comparable. About the same height and build. Both can shoot from outside, but Hood could also finish at the rim like Allen. In H.S. both play/played at a relatively small H.S. where they are/were the best player on the floor by far.

Could not agree more! As my previous post stated, Cal, as well as many BBN, need to re-think "what is it that is the ultimate goal?" Win more championships or continue to put kids in the NBA after 1 season? Many get so hung up on "rankings" and "# of stars" instead of realizing that "this young man can flat out play" and is willing to listen, be developed and stick around for more than what basically ends up being about 7-8 months.

 

I don't have a dog in the fight and I could be wrong but if UK continues being the premier NBA farm system with the "one and doners" I don't see them winning any NCs in the near future. Many might dispute this, but I honestly think Coach Cal did his best "coaching" at UMass. Many of those teams flat out overachieved.

I don't really care about rankings. Alexander was a 4 star and look were he is now. Work ethic is so important at the next level. Not sure on Allen. Coach Belcher could answer this question. I have watched Allen since he was a 8th grader and was very impressed. I am so proud of him and especially since he is from our regio and I have got to watch him play . Hard to give a evaluation of a player if you have not watched them play. I will be thrilled and will support any KY player whenever they choose to play.

 

I even supported Preston Knowles when he went to Louisville. LOL

Surprised no one has mentioned the fact that DJ Jeffries decommitted from UK this morning. Pretty guarantees the offer for Allen now, not that it wasn't already in the works to begin with though.

Kentucky will offer him when he’s on campus. And for all the “is he willing to wait to play?” people, he’s as good or better than any wing that’s committed. He’s a 4/5 Star kid. Can score at all 3 levels, plays D, and has great length. Potential to be a one and done.

I'm sure gametime could tell us, but Jeffries has played with Wiseman in the past for Penny Hardaway. I would expect Jeffries to land in Memphis now along with Wiseman but we will have to wait and see I suppose.

I never expected Wiseman to go to UK. The de-commitment of Jeffries pretty much solidifies that IMO.
